Albums, Commercials, and Videos for Songwriters and Performers of Golosio Music Publishing Company

Scott Joss and Doug ColosioLOS ANGELES, Calif., Nov. 24, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Smaller music publishing companies have to fight harder for the songs they represent, and Golosio Publishing (www.golosio.com) is no exception. With so much of the industry tied up in sweetheart deals and behind-the-scenes arrangements, Golosio has stepped up their involvement with alternative approaches to music marketing.

First, the composer-performers at Golosio are releasing albums. Scott Joss and Doug Colosio, members of Merle Haggard’s band The Strangers, have put thirteen of their songs onto an album titled “A Couple of Strangers.” They play their music “the natural way,” Joss says, “not like pop or country-rock or any kind of processed assembly-line music.” The idea is to honor the tradition of the true roots of country music. Meanwhile, James Sotelo, another Golosio performer and songwriter, has released “Blast of Fast,” a collection of electronic pieces that verge on instrumental rock. Another performer, Jonny Harmonic, has released “We All Love Bright Shiny Things,” a dozen groove/chill songs.

Second, videos have been made for five of the Joss and Colosio songs and several for tracks on the Sotelo and Harmonic albums. With the exception of the censored videos, they can all be found on YouTube. In most cases, the album images, artist photographs, and cover designs are by Phil Hatten.

Next, the Golosio team, working with the FookMovie collective, created a number of one-minute music videos using recordings by the Bella Swan Bass Society (BSBS), the Golosio “house band,” a mixture of electronic and analog musicians.

Finally, the sounds of BSBS are in a series of fake commercials airing exclusively on the four Sheena Metal radio programs on the LATalkRadio network. All the spots are for non-existent products called “Androyx.” Examples include an Androyx energy drink, an Androyx automobile, and an Androyx phone (“Forget 3G, 4G or 5G, Androyx offers 157G!”)

“We have to get our music out to people in ways not always associated with music publishing companies,” notes John Scott G, head of the publishing firm. “Far too much of the music you hear on soundtracks and in commercials was selected on the basis of who knows who or which attorneys play golf together, not because it is interesting music or the best composition for the project. As more music publishers do what we’re doing, perhaps that will change.”

About Golosio Publishing:
In addition to Colosio, G, Joss, Sotelo, and Harmonic, songwriters and performers working with Golosio include DJ Insane (trance) as well as country writers Greg Colosio, Dennis Barney, Jim Dyer, and Wayne Dean. Golosio music has been heard in commercials for Verizon Wireless, Goodyear, the Auto Club, Micron, General Dynamics, and more. G, Colosio, Joss and Haggard co-wrote “Bad Actor” on the 2010 Merle Haggard album (“I Am What I Am” on Vanguard Records).
