WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 2, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Gingrich Foundation has recognized the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association as its February Charity of the Month. The Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association cares for one of our country’s most important historic sites – the home and estate of our first president, George Washington.

Founded in 1853 by Ann Pamela Cunningham, the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association is the oldest national historic preservation organization in the United States. Under Ms. Cunningham’s leadership, the Association sought to raise $200,000 in a national appeal to save Washington’s home. Five years later, the Association purchased Mount Vernon from Washington’s great-grandnephew and began to restore it. In 1860, the Association finally opened the estate to the public, and it has remained open as a monument to President Washington ever since.

Today, approximately one million people visit Mount Vernon each year. The mansion, now restored with many of its original furnishings, is open for tours. Guests are free to roam the gardens and grounds, where a variety of original buildings still stand. At the pioneer farm site, as well as at the working blacksmith shop, distillery, and gristmill, visitors to Mount Vernon can get a better sense of Washington’s life as a farmer by seeing important components of his estate operating much as they were when Washington died in 1799. On a hillside overlooking the Potomac, President Washington is buried with his wife Martha and several other family members.

“We appreciate very much that the Gingrich Foundation has set an example for others to follow,” said James C. Rees, president of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association. “Because we don’t receive any government support, we depend upon the generosity of a wide range of patriotic Americans.”

“The Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association has preserved one of America’s historical treasures for more than 150 years,” said Callista Gingrich, president of the Gingrich Foundation. “The Association’s work has helped generations of Americans better understand the Father of Our Country.”

The Mount Vernon Ladies Association cares for President Washington’s home and estate without the use of public funds.

The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.

The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation cares for two of America’s most iconic historical sites – Lady Liberty and Ellis Island.

In 1982, both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island were in need of significant restoration when President Ronald Reagan asked Lee Iacocca, Chairman of the Chrysler Corporation, to lead a fundraising effort dedicated to their preservation.

For three decades, the Foundation has worked together with the National Park Service to restore the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Renovations to the Statue of Liberty have included rebuilding its interior structural support as well as the installation of a Statue of Liberty Museum in the statue’s base. At Ellis Island, the Foundation created the Ellis Island Immigration Museum as well as theaters, libraries, exhibits, and an oral history recording studio. The museum has helped educate more than 40 million visitors since it opened in 1990, and its American Family Immigration History Center allows online visitors to search archives of passenger records and ships’ manifests.

“You can’t know who you are unless you know where you came from,” said Stephen A. Briganti, Foundation President. “At ellisisland.org, we help you begin your journey of discovery into your past.”

“The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are at the heart of what it means to be an American,” said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. “The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation has been working for 30 years to save important pieces of our history for future generations.”

To date, the Foundation has raised over $600 million. Its support continues to come from the private sector and from the generosity of individual Americans.

The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.

Toys for Tots distributes millions of gifts each Christmas to brighten the holidays of our nation’s less fortunate children.

Colonel William L. Hendricks, USMCR, founded Toys for Tots as a pilot program in 1947. The Marine Corps expanded his project just one year later into a national effort and called upon Marine Corps Reserve units to conduct Toys for Tots campaigns in their local communities.

Six decades later, Toys for Tots continues to thrive. Today, the program reaches all 50 states, and invites communities without a reserve unit to conduct approved Toys for Tots campaigns.

“We are very pleased the Gingrich Foundation has decided to name the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation as their Charity for the Month of December,” said retired Marine Major Bill Grein, Vice President of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. “With this additional exposure we will reach many civic-minded people who share our interest in helping fulfill the Christmas holiday dreams of our nation’s neediest children; children who might otherwise be overlooked this year.”

“Toys for Tots is a wonderful American tradition,” said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. “Newt and I are honored to support an organization that helps raise the spirits and hopes of those in need at Christmas.”

To date, Toys for Tots has distributed more than 450 million toys to more than 200 million children — an extraordinary accomplishment.

WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 7, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Gingrich Foundation has recognized the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) as its October Charity of the Month.

WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 7, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Gingrich Foundation has recognized the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) as its October Charity of the Month.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1991 by Janelle Hail, a breast cancer survivor first diagnosed in 1980, at age 34. Janelle survived because her cancer was detected early. Today NBCF is dedicated to saving lives through early detection of breast cancer and increasing awareness through education.

Through its flagship initiative, the National Mammography Program, NBCF provides free mammograms to under served women in all 50 states. It also emphasizes the importance of regular mammography screening.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation’s “Beyond the Shock” (www.beyondtheshock.com) Program serves as an online resource that helps women learn more about breast cancer, as well as communicate with others who are affected by the disease.

“As a 31-year breast cancer survivor, I understand the importance of early detection,” says NBCF Founder and CEO, Janelle Hail. “Early detection saved my life and that’s why it is NBCF’s mission to educate the importance of early detection and provide mammograms for those in need.”

“One in every eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime,” said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. “The National Breast Cancer Foundation encourages early detection and consequently helps save untold lives.”

The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.

A list of facilities in the NBCF network can be found at www.nationalbreastcancer.org/About-NBCF/Our-Mission/.

For nearly 45 years, Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) has provided books to children to foster a love of reading and develop skills that are critical to learning.

To date, RIF has given away more than 380 million books to children. Last year alone, through its Books for Ownership Program, RIF provided 15 million new books to 4 million children in all 50 states.

“RIF is committed to continuing its legacy of providing books to the millions of under served children in this country,” said Carol H. Rasco, president and CEO of RIF. “Studies show that having access to books has positive behavioral, educational, and psychological outcomes for children, and we will continue our efforts to inspire more children to become lifelong readers.”

“As American students return back to school, Reading Is Fundamental provides an opportunity for millions of children to discover the joys of reading,” said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. “With memories of this program from my childhood, I am pleased we can support RIF’s important work.”

As the nation’s largest children’s literacy nonprofit, RIF programs reach children in a variety of settings including schools, community centers, homeless shelters, and hospitals. RIF inspires children to read by giving them the power to choose books based on their own interests.

Through a network of 400,000 volunteers, RIF motivates and encourages children and families to discover the joy of reading.

The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.

The National Military Family Association was founded in 1969 by military wives concerned about ensuring the financial security of military widows. Since that time the organization has grown into one of the most important advocates for families of service men and women throughout all ranks of the military. Today, the National Military Family Association is devoted to supporting spouses, parents, and family members of U.S. service men and women by providing information, benefits assistance, and special programs.

“Military families are our nation’s families,” said the Association’s Executive Director, Joyce Wessel Raezer. “They serve with quiet dedication and determination in communities across our country and around the world. They look to those communities — schools, employers, civic and religious organizations — to recognize their service and support, as they face the challenges and legacy of almost ten years of war.”

“The National Military Families Association provides important assistance to members of the Armed Forces and their loved ones,” said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. “Newt and I encourage others to join us in supporting our military families.”

In addition to educating military families about government programs and benefits designed to help them, the Association offers scholarships for military spouses. It also honors military families who exemplify service and are role models in their communities.

To those who are not members of military families, the Association offers an online tool kit to provide information on how anyone can support service members and their families, at www.militaryfamily.org/publications/community-toolkit/ .

The Association also offers a variety of free summer camp programs for families of service members. Operation Purple Camp provides summer camps for children to develop necessary skills to deal with their parents’ deployments.

The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.

The Thomas Jefferson Foundation owns and operates Monticello, the mountaintop home of Founding Father, Thomas Jefferson. Since 1923, the Foundation has maintained this World Heritage Site and National Historic Landmark without ongoing federal or state funding, relying instead on the generosity of private donors to help preserve Jefferson’s estate. Today, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation is committed to its dual mission of preserving Monticello and the legacy of Thomas Jefferson.

“We are pleased that the Gingrich Foundation has named the Thomas Jefferson Foundation its Charity of the Month and hope this recognition will inspire new audiences to support our mission,” said Leslie Greene Bowman, president and CEO of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation.

“The Thomas Jefferson Foundation sustains the legacy of one of our most important Founding Fathers,” said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. “Newt and I encourage others to support the Foundation’s important work as the trustee of this historic national landmark.”

Chief accomplishments in the Foundation’s history include restoration of the architectural masterpiece, reacquisition and protection of 2,400 acres, reacquisition of most of Jefferson’s original furnishings, creation of an unsurpassed library, and extensive archaeological research.

The Thomas Jefferson Foundation expanded its educational mission with academic and scholarship programs in 1994 with the opening of the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies. In 2009, the Foundation opened the Thomas Jefferson Visitor Center and Smith Education Center with museum galleries, film, and classrooms. Today, 60,000 children visit Monticello annually.

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 9, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Gingrich Foundation has selected the Boy Scouts of America as Charity of the Month for June in commemoration of President Woodrow Wilson’s signing into law a national charter for the Boy Scouts of America on June 15, 1916.

Originally incorporated in February 1910 by W. D. Boyce, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has become one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. For nearly a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of America by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun.

“The Boy Scouts of America prepares young people for life by providing the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training,” said Brad Farmer, Assistant Chief Scout Executive, BSA. “With 2.7 million youth members and more than a million volunteers the BSA serves America through millions of service hours each year. We are grateful for our supporters’ gifts of time and resources which allow us to continue our mission and to help develop our nation’s future leaders.”

“The Boy Scouts of America teach our youth to become responsible and productive members of our communities,” said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. “Newt and I encourage all Americans to support the valuable work they do in helping to develop our next generation of leaders.”

The Boy Scouts of America believes that preparing young people for life, in areas of education, leadership and service – all with a spirit of adventure – is the key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society. Through various programs, including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing and other tools like the award-winning Boys’ Life, which has for 100 years chronicled Scouting’s commitment to give young Americans the tools, experiences and knowledge they need to make the world a better place, Boy Scouts of America offers opportunities for young people to learn about education, leadership, community, character, and service. In addition to supporting and teaching youth in the United States, Boy Scout councils also provide service to American citizens living abroad.

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 4, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — In observance of Military Appreciation Month, the Gingrich Foundation has recognized Freedom Alliance as Charity of the Month this May for the organization’s commitment to honoring the service and sacrifice of America’s men and women in uniform and their families.

Founded in 1990 by Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, Freedom Alliance has worked arduously over the last twenty years to achieve their mission to “advance the American heritage of freedom by honoring and encouraging military service, defending the sovereignty of the United States and promoting a strong national defense.”

“We at Freedom Alliance are grateful and honored to be recognized in this way by the Gingrich Foundation,” said Freedom Alliance President Tom Kilgannon. “Newt and Callista understand well the importance that philanthropy and private charity play in America’s role as an exceptional nation. They provide great leadership through their personal support, and public recognition, of worthy charities.

“We thank them for highlighting Freedom Alliance’s efforts to support the individuals, ideas and institutions which make America great – specifically, the men and women of America’s military. During Military Appreciation Month, we’re honored to partner with Speaker and Mrs. Gingrich to shine a light of recognition on America’s most deserving citizens – our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and their families.”

Freedom Alliance’s Support Our Troops Program provides continual outreach to America’s servicemen and women and their families, hosting various events and providing financial support to members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in combat or who are currently serving on the front lines. Celebrating its 10th year, the Freedom Alliance’s Military Leadership Academy develops leadership skills and strengthens character, providing 14-18 year old students with a summer camp experience, grounded in military discipline, that teaches the importance of physical fitness, service, and teamwork. Freedom Alliance’s Scholarship Fund supports the children of our military heroes who have been killed in combat or who have been permanently disabled in an operational mission or training accident. Over the years Freedom Alliance has awarded over $4 million dollars in scholarships.

“Freedom Alliance has been a true and devoted leader in supporting the men and women of our nation’s military and their families, who sacrifice so much for our freedom,” said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. “Newt and I are delighted to recognize Freedom Alliance as our Charity of the Month and hope each and every citizen will consider supporting this worthy organization as a sign of deep appreciation for our nation’s military.”

(SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- In honor of National Autism Awareness Month, the Gingrich Foundation has selected the Autism Society as Charity of the Month, recognizing the organization's devotion to improving the lives of all individuals affected by autism spectrum disorders.

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 6 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — In honor of National Autism Awareness Month, the Gingrich Foundation has selected the Autism Society as Charity of the Month, recognizing the organization’s devotion to improving the lives of all individuals affected by autism spectrum disorders.

Approximately 1.5 million Americans live with autism, which has seen a 600 percent increase over the past two decades. Autism, a complex developmental disability that affects a person’s communication, socialization, and behavior, places a heavy burden on families, requiring extra time and special attention for the affected family member, in addition to what the Autism Society estimates to be $3.5 million to $5 million in cost to care for one child with autism over their lifetime.

As the nation’s leading grassroots autism organization, the Autism Society, founded in 1965, works to increase awareness and provide resources about autism spectrum disorders (ASD), as well as promote the dignity of all individuals on the spectrum. With 150 chapters across the United States, the Autism Society advocates for the best and most appropriate services for individuals and families.

“I would like to sincerely thank Newt and Callista Gingrich for supporting the Autism Society and honoring its accomplishments by naming it the Gingrich Foundation’s Charity of the Month, a move that carries particular significance during April, National Autism Awareness Month,” said Jeff Sell, Autism Society Vice President of Public Policy. “Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the United States, and individuals affected by autism have great potential if they have access to the services and supports they need. By supporting the Autism Society, the Gingrich Foundation and its supporters are helping to change lives, and we thank them for their invaluable contribution.”

“The Autism Society has made remarkable advancements in increasing public awareness and supporting research to improve the lives of those affected with autism,” said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. “We are pleased to select the Autism Society as our Charity of the Month and encourage others to support their outstanding efforts.”

In recognition of National Autism Awareness Month, the Autism Society has extended its ongoing partnership with AMC Theaters to include a special 40-city screening tour of a new documentary on autism, entitled, Wretches & Jabberers.

The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.
