COSTA MESA, Calif. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Renaissance Surgical Arts at Newport Harbor announced today that it is the first outpatient surgery center in the Western U.S. to offer intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) using the INTRABEAM System - the only device used in the TARGIT-A multicenter human clinical trial that demonstrated IORT to be as effective as traditional radiation for certain women with early breast cancer.

COSTA MESA, Calif., Feb. 10 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Renaissance Surgical Arts at Newport Harbor announced today that it is the first outpatient surgery center in the Western United States to offer intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) using the INTRABEAM® System – the only device used in the TARGIT-A multicenter human clinical trial that demonstrated IORT to be as effective as traditional radiation for certain women with early breast cancer.

IORT has the potential to replace as many as six and a half weeks of routine radiation therapy with 20-30 minutes of targeted radiation administered during surgery directly to the tumor site after lumpectomy.

“IORT is a game-changer for women facing breast cancer – I like to call it one and done,” said Dr. Alice Police, breast surgeon at Renaissance and co-founder of Pacific Breast Care in Newport Beach, Calif. “For some women in the earlier stages of breast cancer, IORT makes it possible for them to have one surgery consisting of lumpectomy and single-dose radiation therapy and then go on with their life having completed their breast cancer treatment.”

Unlike whole breast radiation treatment, which is administered five times per week for as many as six and a half weeks, IORT provides patients with a targeted single-dose radiation treatment delivered intraoperatively after removal of the tumor. Radiation is applied for 20-30 minutes, exposing the affected tissue in the tumor bed from the inside.

“Dr. Police’s passion for IORT as a revolutionary development in treating early breast cancers aligned with our mission to deliver the best surgical technologies available to patients in a comfortable and private outpatient environment,” said Bruce Wallace, CEO and Administrator for Renaissance Surgical Arts at Newport Harbor. “We looked at IORT device manufacturers and it was clear that the INTRABEAM System was the only responsible choice given its exclusive use in the TARGIT-A Clinical trial which provides 10 years of study and follow-up data to back its safety and efficacy.”

The INTRABEAM System was the only radiotherapy device used in the TARGIT-A clinical trial, the largest randomized clinical trial conducted in the field of IORT for the treatment of breast cancer. The TARGIT-A trial was launched in 2000 and it enrolled 2,232 human patients throughout 28 centers in nine countries. With up to 10-years of follow-up data, the study results demonstrate the equivalency of single-dose targeted IORT in comparison to external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) based on local recurrence.

Renaissance is one of only two outpatient surgery centers in the entire country to offer IORT using the INTRABEAM System, and is the only outpatient facility in the Western United States. It is also the only location at all offering treatment in Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties using the clinically proven INTRABEAM System technology.

“After learning about IORT from Dr. Police, I did my own research on the options, risks and benefits of whole breast and partial breast radiation in comparison to IORT,” said Gila Jones, 58 of San Juan Capistrano, Calif. “After feeling confident about effectiveness based on the TARGIT-A outcomes and considering my own lifestyle and other health concerns, IORT became the obvious choice for me. Dr. Police did my surgery at Renaissance where I was treated as an honored guest.”

Patients need to be evaluated by a specialist to determine if they are a good candidate for IORT. To find out if you or someone you know is an IORT candidate, contact Renaissance Surgical Arts at Newport Harbor at 949-629-1400.

EUGENE, Ore., Nov. 30 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Noble Vision Group, LLC, a research and development organization, today announced the success of its first LIVE Webcast broadcast by SoundQue Multimedia Services, a unique multimedia production facility that specializes in video and audio streaming.

The LIVE surgery, which occurred on September 24th, was an exciting example of Noble Vision Group’s dedication to delivering cutting edge technology to the eye care market.

Noble Vision Group President Patrick H. Witham commented, “We take tremendous pride in our organization’s ability to be agile and diverse, especially when presented with an opportunity to participate in developing a vehicle to deliver tools that ultimately advance this area of medicine. Of course, an event like this is always much easier when you are afforded the privilege of working with a highly skilled surgeon and great teacher such as Dr. Black.”

Medical professionals from over 14 different countries spanning 4 continents watched as Dr. Evan Black conducted a Laser Assisted Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) Surgery using the MULTIDIODE® S15 OFT System, a laser specially developed for lacrimal surgery. Dr. Black has been performing endonasal DCR since 1998, and using the MULTIDIODE System for transcanalicular DCR since 2007.

The MULTIDIODE® System, produced and distributed by ITI Laser, is the first DCR laser to receive worldwide CE approval and is the only FDA approved laser indicated for DCR surgery. The system is based upon high power, diode, laser, semi-conductor technology and enables surgeons to perform minimally invasive procedures in as little as 10 minutes.

Dr. Black described the event, saying, “The surgery went very well. When the patient was seen postoperatively at one week, he was comfortable, had no edema or eccymosis, and the tearing problem seems to be resolved. We will recheck him in about one month.”

A live question and answer session moderated by Dr. Paul S. Koch immediately followed the surgery and is included in the recorded version. Now open to the public, the recording of the LIVE surgery can be viewed by visiting http://www.michiganliveevents.com/bcast/NV/NVmain.php .

COSTA MESA, Calif. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Renaissance Surgical Arts at Newport Harbor, a new cutting edge multispecialty ambulatory surgery center in Orange County, celebrated its official Grand Opening on Saturday, Oct. 23. Costa Mesa Mayor Allan Mansoor and Ronnie Guyer, district representative for Assemblyman Van Tran, were among the local officials, physicians and 400 guests that celebrated the addition of Renaissance, and its new model for exceptional patient care, to the community.

“We are so proud to have Renaissance here in our community,” said Mayor Mansoor. “We recognize that high-quality healthcare is among the most important and valued services to residents.”

Renaissance is a Joint Commission and Medicare certified facility that brings a new standard of care to the area with leading edge surgical technology, an unmatched commitment to infection control, and concierge style patient care. The Center is home to some of the most advanced technology available anywhere in the United States and is a national showroom for new and emerging equipment.

“We’re here today because some very special physicians in this community believed in a new vision for ambulatory surgical care,” said Bruce Wallace, CEO of the Center. “We worked with these surgeons to create a new approach to the outpatient environment that could restore patient privacy, provide better safeguards from infectious disease and allow doctors to direct the care of their patients.”

The majority physician-owned facility was built from the ground up to support current and future technologies that will continue to improve surgical outcomes and patient care. Today Renaissance is a consummate example of infection control and how the thoughtful application of technology results in a highly efficient operation that actually reduces costs in a sustainable model.

“We do not believe that exceptional patient care and reduced costs are mutually exclusive,” said Wallace. “In fact, we’ve proven that they are actually inclusive.”

COSTA MESA, Calif. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Renaissance Surgical Arts at Newport Harbor today announced that it has met or exceeded compliance with the Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety, earning the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval. This is the second accreditation for Renaissance, the multispecialty ambulatory surgery center opened in August 2010 with its accreditation from IMQ (Institute of Medical Quality).

“Renaissance was designed to set a new standard of care by embracing the philosophy of Joint Commission and working to exceed national standards,” said Bruce Wallace, CEO. “We have worked very hard to bring together all available technologies, best practice knowledge and world-class physicians to build a facility that raises outpatient surgical care to new levels of excellence.”

The Joint Commission conducted an unannounced, on-site evaluation of Renaissance on Sept. 23, 2010. The accreditation award recognized Renaissance’s dedication to complying with the Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards on a continuous basis. An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission is the nation’s most established and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare.

“Achieving accreditation demonstrates Renaissance has voluntarily sought an independent evaluation of its compliance with state-of-the-art performance standards,” says Michael Kulczycki, executive director, Ambulatory Care Accreditation Program, The Joint Commission.

Renaissance is a professionally managed, but majority physician-owned facility. With eight ORs and two procedure rooms, the 20,000-plus square foot outpatient facility demonstrates how to marry cutting edge technology in a patient-centric environment that is as beautiful as it is functional. Infection control was a paramount factor in driving the center’s design to take advantage of every available technology and best practice to eliminate the possibility of infection to patients.

The multispecialty outpatient center supports the area’s best physicians representing a wide variety of specialties, including Cardiology, Ear Nose and Throat, Gastroenterology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Spinal, Ophthalmology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Podiatry, Oncology, Interventional Radiology, GYN and General Surgery.
