SIGNAL HILL, Calif., April 19, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Food Finders, Inc. of Signal Hill, California, is pleased to announce it is a recipient of Neotrope’s 2013 J.L. Simmons NonProfit PR Grant award. With this commitment, Neotrope(R) will assist with Food Finders’ mission to redistribute food donated by the regional hospitality industry and local grocers to feed those who are food insecure.

“Food Finders is a multi-regional nonprofit organization with a mission to eliminate hunger in our local communities,” shared Patti Larson, Executive Director of Food Finders, Inc. in Signal Hill, Calif. “Neotrope/Send2Press will support our effort to increase awareness of what we do, encouraging community businesses such as hotels, caterers, banquet rooms, restaurants and more – along with local residents – to ensure that no food gets wasted, but rather donated to feed those less fortunate.”

Food Finders is celebrating an important milestone this year. As of April of this year, Food Finders has reached a “100 million pounds of food rescued” milestone; meaning, since 1989, the nonprofit has received 100 million pounds of food donated and redistributed to feed those who are food insecure.

April also coincides with Food Finder’s 24th Anniversary of doing food rescue/hunger relief. “We’re excited to hit that mark, and are on goal to collect 7.3 million pounds of food in 2013,” adds Larson.

As part of this in-kind grant program, Neotrope is providing public relations (PR) solutions, news dissemination (through its Send2Press(R) Newswire service), online advertising, and social media marketing for Food Finders, Inc. This program is intended to help raise awareness of the 501(c)3 non-profit to traditional media, to the public, as well as potential sponsors and donors, regarding their efforts in distributing food directly to more than 200 missions, shelters and social service agencies to feed the needy and impoverished.

“We’re honored in providing assistance for Food Finders,” said Neotrope CEO, Christopher Laird Simmons; a member of PRSA and ASCAP. “Their efforts fill a notable need in local communities where daily hunger is still a desperate problem for some, and not just the homeless. Food Finders uses the term ‘food insecure’ and this need can equally apply to families who are ‘under employed’ which is a growing segment of the U.S. population not being well addressed by the Federal or State agencies. Food Finders’ mission is one of the most admirable in finding and rescuing food to redistribute to those needing it most, and we truly look forward to helping them raise awareness and engagement for their efforts.”

About Food Finders, Inc.:
Food Finders is a community-based food rescue organization, founded in 1989, that serves as a conduit for food, education, and awareness between donors, volunteers, agencies and people in need. Its vision is to eliminate hunger and food waste, while improving nutrition in the communities we serve.

Headquartered in Signal Hill, Calif. (in Los Angeles county), Food Finders picks up donated food from hundreds of local grocery stores, bakeries, restaurants and produce markets and distributes it directly to more than 200 missions, shelters and social service agencies to feed the needy and impoverished.

Food Finders also helps merchants comply with the California Waste Management law, requiring them to cut their waste by 50 percent, and more recently mandated, 75 percent. Instead of going to landfills, the wholesome, consumable food is being used to feed hungry children and adults.

PLANTATION, Fla., April 1, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Earth Day is April 22 and USA Coffee Company is doing its part to save the planet. USA Coffee Company is proud of its efforts to produce conventional certified Hawaiian coffee that is environmentally friendly.

“We have developed farming practices that return the harvesting and processing byproducts back into the soil to control weeds, and to replenish the soil’s nutrients,” Ted Massinello, president of USA Coffee Company, says. “We also recycle the coffee wash water and the green waste from pruning. All branches and twigs are mulched and recycled year after year; nothing goes into landfills.”

Massinello says that it will continue to farm its specialty coffee by recycling by-products that are biodegradable.

Additionally, USA Coffee Company has recently introduced the reusable and eco-friendly coffee filter, Ekobrew, for Keurig single-serve brewers. It’s made in the USA and BPA free. It’s also compatible with the Cuisinart, Breville and Mr. Coffee single-cup machines.

And, because the Ekobrew is reusable, there is no disposable plastic and foil cup to end up in a land fill. This year alone, more than five billion K-cup packs filled with imported coffee will be sold, used and then discarded.

“So, make coffee, not trash,” Massinello says.

The Ekobrew has a financial advantage as well. Coffee drinkers who use the Ekobrew with USA Coffee can expect to save 70 percent or more because there is no need to purchase the K cups. It’s a $0.20 average cost per cup versus $0.70.

It’s pretty too. Ekobrew’s durable and attractive design has won high praise from critics making it a finalist for the 2012 Housewares Design Award presented by HomeWorld Business.

About USA Coffee Company:
USA Coffee Company was established to only roast coffee grown in the USA. 100 percent of its coffee hails from Hawaii. All coffee accessories such as mugs and filters are also made in the USA. Signature coffees include: All American Union Roast; All American Classic; Maui Morning Mojo; and more.

MILWAUKEE, Wis., Dec. 21, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — In celebration of winter and the festive winter holidays, Big Bay Brewing Co.® has introduced its newest craft beer, Portside™. The porter style beer is the third limited edition brew to be introduced by the Shorewood, Wisconsin-based craft brewer.

“Porters are a good fit for long, cold winters like the ones we have in Wisconsin. While all of our beers are meant to be enjoyed year-round, we wanted to offer a distinctive, hearty beer that’s well-suited for the coldest months,” said Jeff Garwood, Big Bay Brewing Co. co-founder and managing partner. “Portside is a perfect complement to winter festivities – whether it’s a holiday gathering with family and friends, a ski weekend up north, or a relaxing evening by the fire,” added Garwood.

Porters, known for their dark color and slight sweetness, originated in 18th Century London when it was common to experiment with combinations of various beer styles. According to legend, a particular combination became popular with the porters around Victoria Station who began drinking it as a lunchtime meal. A local brewer took notice and began brewing and distributing that specific combination (*NOTE: 1).

Like its British ancestors, Big Bay Brewing’s Portside features an aromatic malt flavor with hints of chocolate, toffee and coffee, and a deep brown color. It’s a well-balanced, drinkable brown porter for those who appreciate the carefully crafted combination of sweet roasted malt notes and East Kent Golding hops.

The introduction of Portside Porter marks Big Bay Brewing Co.’s third limited edition brew. It will be available through the winter. Previously, the company introduced Long Weekend™ IPA and Summer Tide, a wheat beer, as limited edition beers.

“We know that craft beer drinkers actively seek out new flavor profiles and our limited edition beers allow us to meet the needs of craft beer consumers with various beer styles throughout the year. Our distinctive Portside brown porter is a great addition to our Big Bay Brewing family for craft beer drinkers looking for a bit maltier beer during winter,” said Garwood.

Last winter, Big Bay Brewing rolled out Portside draft on a limited test basis. Due to the strong favorable response, the company is now introducing it to beer drinkers across Wisconsin. Portside is available in select retailers (primarily liquor stores and supermarkets), bars and restaurants across Wisconsin. It is also available for sampling, along with other Big Bay Brewing beers, at the Big Bay Brewing Co.’s Tasting Room and Retail Center, 4517 N. Oakland Ave. in Shorewood, Wis.

Developed from unique and exclusive recipes that feature proprietary yeast and the highest quality ingredients, Big Bay Brewing beers offer the distinctiveness of Wisconsin’s microbrews with a clean finish. They’re brewed slowly and methodically resulting in a well-balanced, robust, drinking experience. The company has relationships with multiple brewing partners.

Big Bay Brewing’s Portside, Boatilla Amber Ale®, Long Weekend IPA and award-winning Wavehopper Kölsch Style Ale® are available at select retailers, bars and restaurants across Wisconsin. They are sold at retail in six-packs of 12-oz. bottles, as well as in draft form in 1/4 barrel slim kegs and 1/2 barrels. Big Bay products are sold by local distributors across Wisconsin, including Beer Capitol Distributing Inc., Frank Beer Distributors Inc., CJW Inc. and Kay Beer Distributing.

About Big Bay Brewing Co.:

VACAVILLE, Calif., Dec. 20, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Integrated Comfort Inc. (ICI) of Vacaville, CA has recently completed DualCool installations on 14 Walmart stores in northern and central California. DualCool is a retrofittable system that significantly improves the efficiency of rooftop cooling units (RTU’s) in dry climates. The patented DualCool technology is owned and manufactured by ICI.

DualCool uses a direct evaporative process to pre-cool outdoor air entering the condenser coil, and an indirect process (no moisture added) to pre-cool ventilation air entering the building. On retail facilities in hot dry climates, DualCool typically reduces annual cooling energy use and peak electrical demand by 25 to 40 percent.

This 2011 installation program resulted from a partnering effort of three affiliate members of the UC Davis Western Cooling Efficiency Center (WCEC): Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Walmart and ICI. UC Davis launched the WCEC in 2007 to accelerate the implementation of proven cooling technologies that take advantage of the unique characteristics of dry climates typical of the western U.S.

Walmart began testing DualCool on stores in California and Arizona in 2008. ICI introduced its “Generation 2″ DualCool version in 2010. Prototypes of this higher-performance, lower-priced DualCool line were monitored by the WCEC in 2010, leading to this year’s Walmart demonstration program supported by PG&E.

“We are focused on leading the industry with implementation of cost-effective technologies that improve efficiency and move us toward a more sustainable future,” says Jim McClendon, Walmart Director of Engineering. “We have been evaluating various evaporative pre-cooling products, and our major criteria are performance, durability, and favorable economics.”

The 2011 installations were supported by PG&E as a potential element of its Emerging Technologies program. Beutler Heating and Air of Sacramento, another WCEC Affiliate Member, installed the 115 DualCool units under a subcontract with ICI. The 14 stores stretched from Oroville in the north to Fresno in the south.

“We are always interested in technology that allows our customers to save energy during peak hours of operation,” says Dave Alexander of PG&E. “Thanks in part to the work of the Western Cooling Efficiency Center and their affiliate partners such as Walmart and Integrated Comfort, there is a renewed interest in evaporative pre-cooling for hot dry climates. Over the next year we will continue to monitor performance and track energy savings on these installations.”

Mark Modera, Director of the WCEC, comments that “Retrofit cooling efficiency technologies are particularly needed because there are millions of RTU’s in use that will not be replaced for years. The WCEC is encouraging both new and retrofit cooling technologies, but the overall savings potential is greater in the retrofit category.”

“DualCool is designed for durability and easy service,” notes Dick Bourne, ICI Vice-President. “Our stainless steel enclosures, top-of-the line evaporative media, and high-performance cooling coils ensure long life, large peak demand reduction, and significant energy cost savings. We look forward to more partnering with key participants to cost-effectively improve the efficiencies of commercial cooling equipment.”

CHESAPEAKE, Va., Oct. 10, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Chase’s Calendar of Events, 2011 Edition has designated the month of November as “Banana Pudding Lovers Month.” Created by the Rodgers family of Rodgers’ Banana Pudding Sauce, Banana Pudding Lovers Month is a time for families during the start of the holiday season to re-create the memories of their happy childhood or start creating memories for their own children.

The patriarch of the Rodgers’ family, Reggie, a 26-year disabled Navy veteran, said, “I have many sweet memories of my family sitting down together eating their banana pudding dessert. This is why I believe it is important to pass the tradition from one generation to another.”

Because of Gin-Gin, the youngest daughter, suggestion to market her father’s recipe of banana pudding sauce that he received from his mother, Polly, the Rodgers family is now sharing their tradition. Their all natural ingredients – low fat, low sodium, and no trans fat – banana pudding sauce is sold in some Kroger stores, commissaries, and farm markets. Sold in 16 and 32 ounce jars to the retail market and the gallon size to food service, another attribute of their banana pudding sauce also includes ease of use.

A banana pudding dessert can be made within minutes. Shake really well before opening, open jar and stir, pour Rodgers’ Banana Pudding Sauce over your wafers, bananas, and spread; now eat and enjoy!

Other dishes that Rodgers’ Banana Pudding Sauce can be used to make include banana pancakes, banana pudding milkshakes, banana strawberry smoothies, bread pudding, fruit dip, crepes, and blueberry cream tarts. Additionally, Rodgers’ Banana Pudding Sauce can be used to make pudding shots with coconut rum and a Marble Meltdown with Pinnacle Whipped Cream Vodka. Rodgers’ Banana Pudding Sauce is one product with seemly endless possibilities.

MILWAUKEE, Wis., Aug. 1, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — With the dog days of summer upon us, Big Bay Brewing Co.®, producer of hand-crafted specialty beers, announces the introduction of two refreshing all-natural gourmet sodas. The craft brewer, based in Shorewood, Wis., is unveiling its Pierjumper Twisting Citrus and Oh Buoy! Cherry Cola across Wisconsin this month.

Pierjumper Twisting Citrus is a refreshing citrus blend and Oh Buoy! Cherry Cola is a hand-crafted cola with a cherry finish and a hint of spice. Both sodas feature old-fashioned quality with contemporary, natural flavors and are sweetened with real sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup.

According to Jeff Garwood, Big Bay Brewing Co. co-founder and managing partner, the company has introduced its gourmet sodas in response to the growing interest in premium carbonated beverages made with innovative flavors, high-quality ingredients and natural sweeteners. In fact, the artisanal soda trend has gained enough momentum that Beverage World began covering up-and-coming developments in the category last year, adding it to its “Hit” list.

“It’s been exciting to see the innovation and growth that’s been happening with craft sodas and we’re pleased to deliver two soda flavors made with the same passion and attention to detail as our craft beers,” said Garwood. “We see the growth of gourmet sodas running parallel to that of craft beer, and believe our products will appeal to those who appreciate hand-crafted quality whether it’s in a beer or a non-alcoholic beverage.”

With the hottest days of summer upon us, those looking for a natural thirst-quencher will enjoy Big Bay Pierjumper Twisting Citrus. Like “sunlight captured in a bottle,” the refreshing all-natural citrus beverage is the perfect choice any time of day – such as those precious last summer afternoons on the lake, or while enjoying an ocean sunset after a day at the beach.

The hand-crafted quality flavors of Oh Buoy! Cherry Cola may remind the soda drinker of days-gone-by at an old-time beachfront soda fountain, and one might feel the urge to sip it through a red and white striped straw. But make no mistake, with a cherry finish and a hint of spice, this is an all-natural contemporary take on cherry sodas. It can be enjoyed anytime and anywhere a soda drinker is looking for sparkling refreshment in a bottle whether sitting along the banks of a favorite river, lake or stream; or in the backyard watching the kids play in the sprinkler.

The Big Bay sodas have been available for sampling at the Big Bay tasting room for several weeks and the company has received positive consumer feedback. During product sampling, consumers have come up with some interesting thoughts on mixing the Big Bay gourmet sodas with the company’s craft beers.

Throughout the soda development process the company founders believed the Pierjumper Twisting Citrus soda would partner well with the brand’s award-winning Wavehopper Kolsch Style Ale® to create a version of the German Radler-type drink – a lighter alcoholic beverage typically made by mixing equal parts of beer with a citrus soda or carbonated lemonade. (The proportions of the two ingredients can be altered according to taste.) Consumer feedback reinforces it as a refreshing choice for a long, hot summer afternoon or any time a beer drinker might be looking for a lighter option.

Another interesting mixing idea from Big Bay Brewing consumers has been to partner Oh Buoy! Cherry Cola with Big Bay Boatilla Amber Ale®.

“We’ve been pleasantly surprised at the innovative ideas our consumers have brought to us for mixing our gourmet sodas and craft beers; and we see them as a way to provide even greater variety to beer drinkers looking for a lighter alternative or a different flavor profile,” added Garwood.

Big Bay Brewing Co. gourmet sodas are currently available in four-packs of 12-ounce bottles at select retailers across the state, as well as at the Big Bay Tasting Room and Brewery Store, located at 4517 N. Oakland Avenue in Shorewood, Wis. They will also be available individually at select restaurants, coffee shops and cafes. The suggested retail price will be $3.99 to $4.19 for a four-pack. Big Bay sodas are developed in agreement with Black Bear Bottling Group, LLC of Oak Creek, Wis., and are sold by local distributors across Wisconsin, including CJW Inc., Lee Beverage of Wisconsin, Kay Distributing, Webb & Gerritsen Inc. and Zastrow the Beer Man.

About Big Bay Brewing Co.:
Based in Shorewood, Wis., Big Bay Brewing Co. produces specialty hand-crafted beers and gourmet sodas. Big Bay is built with the vision that life on the water is a little sweeter, and that sweet life is infused in every Big Bay beverage. Big Bay’s founders believe that craft brewed beverages and life on the water go hand-in-hand. Life on the water means creating moments that turn into memories to be cherished for a lifetime. And, what better way to enhance those moments than with the right beverage. Driven by increased demand for its energy saving solutions and several commitments from major North American grocery retailers that extend into 2012, Indiana production of REMIS doors will now include the RemiSafe T line.

REMIS has hired 25 employees year to date and that total includes engineers, production employees, installation technicians and support staff with plans to add 15 more new employees by the end of 2011.

Safe T doors were launched in late 2010 by REMIS GmbH in Cologne, Germany. At EuroShop in February 2011 which took place in Dusseldorf, Germany, the Safe T doors were on display and North American retailers that came to the REMIS booth demanded we bring those doors to the states, explains Matt Pletcher REMIS AMERICA managing director. “It was necessary to move our most popular product lines to our Elkhart facility to give our customers the best possible experience. Not only does it allow us to have more control and better timing to satisfy our grocery retailer requirements, but also it lets us invest in our local workforce. The Elkhart area was hit hard by the recession and we at REMIS AMERICA are proud of doing our part to bring it out of the recession.”

Since the company’s inception in 2008, REMIS has brought over 45 jobs to the Elkhart area. “We remain dedicated to the Elkhart county workforce,” says REMIS CEO Jim Schwartz. “Our company is a local family business and we understand all the resources Indiana has to offer. As our business expands, we will no doubt continue to look toward the local workforce and Indiana suppliers to support our growth.”

REMIS AMERICA offers retro-fit refrigeration doors and covers to grocery retailers and OEM case manufacturers that cut energy costs up to 80 percent while also greatly reducing retailers’ carbon footprint.

REMIS AMERICA’S eco-friendly, energy saving systems are unrivaled in keeping energy consumption low by providing a full range of medium temperature insulated glass doors and bunker freezer covers, installation and service. The Westlake Village store is only the third grocery store in the nation to receive the EPA’s highest GreenChill Award.

GreenChill is an EPA Partnership with food retailers to reduce refrigerant emissions and decrease their impact on the ozone layer and climate change.

GreenChill works to help food retailers:
* Transition to environmentally friendlier refrigerants;
* Lower refrigerant charge sizes and eliminate leaks; and
* Adopt green refrigeration technologies, strategies, and practices.

“Hill PHOENIX’s project with fellow GreenChill Partner Sprouts is a perfect example of what companies can do when they take the ‘GreenChill spirit’ and push the boundaries of the achievable,” said Keilly Witman, manager of EPA’s GreenChill Partnership. “This store represents many firsts: the first CO2 cascade system to achieve platinum, the first platinum store west of the Mississippi, and the first time a store was designed from the ground up to achieve GreenChill standards.”

In collaboration with Sprouts’ construction and facilities engineering team, Hill PHOENIX designed and manufactured an innovative new solution featuring a full CO2 cascade system for both low temperature and medium temperature applications – the Second Nature® MT2LX.

“We challenged Hill PHOENIX to come up with a design that would reduce our use of refrigerants by an amount that would allow us to meet GreenChill Platinum standards,” said Jerry Stutler, vice president, construction and facility engineering for Sprouts Farmers Market. “We felt that Hill PHOENIX was more advanced in the engineering and manufacturing of CO2 systems than any other manufacturer on the market today.”

The Second Nature MT2LX system is one of the most environmentally responsible refrigeration systems available in the industry today and represents the next step in CO2 refrigeration technology. CO2 is used as a secondary coolant for the medium-temperature system and as a direct expansion cascade refrigerant for the low-temperature system.

The advantages of a CO2-based cascade system include:
* CO2 is considered a natural refrigerant with very low global warming potential (GWP=1).
* CO2 is an inexpensive, widely available refrigerant compared with HFC.
* A more than 70 percent reduction in HFC refrigerant charge can be achieved. The entire primary refrigerant charge is confined to the machine room and condenser to enable simple leak detection and servicing.
* The lines required for CO2 transport are typically one to two sizes smaller than traditional DX piping systems, reducing the weight of installed copper lines by 50 percent of more and reducing installation costs.

“Sprouts is on a quest not only to provide consumers with fresh and organic products in a unique shopping format, they are working to reduce their global carbon footprint from every aspect,” said Tom McFarlane, regional sales manager for Hill PHOENIX. “Our involvement in that effort is a great example of the collaborative innovation that makes Hill PHOENIX a leader in sustainable, energy efficient commercial refrigeration solutions.”
