FAIRMONT, W.Va., May 7, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Backbone Security, the market leader in advanced digital steganography detection and hidden information extraction tools, is pleased to announce a new addition to their highly acclaimed StegAlyzer family of products.

The Steganography Analyzer Field Scanner (StegAlyzerFS) is a digital forensic examination tool designed specifically for performing rapid field triage on suspect computers to detect the presence or use of digital steganography to conceal information of criminal activity.

StegAlyzerFS will consist of highly specialized steganography detection software on a bootable USB device. The device scans suspect storage media while preserving its forensic integrity.

StegAlyzerFS will have the capability to detect any of the file artifacts associated with over 1,050 steganography applications. Detecting artifacts is an indication the associated application may have been used to hide something that may be of value to the investigation.

StegAlyzerFS will also have the capability of detecting more than 55 known signatures of steganography applications. Detecting a signature is an indication the associated application was used to hide something.

StegAlyzerFS is expected to become a highly valuable tool for uncovering hidden information in a wide variety of use cases.

For example, it can be used
* at border checkpoints for random searches of computers entering or leaving the country or for searching the computers of individuals acting in a suspicious manner;
* in child abduction cases when time is of the essence for finding any information that may shed light on the whereabouts of the missing child;
* in cases involving child pornography to quickly find images that may have been hidden with steganography in order to identify and rescue the child victims as quickly as possible;
* in cases involving terrorism to detect covert communications between individuals or groups.

“We’re very excited about the potential for StegAlyzerFS becoming a valuable tool for digital forensics examiners around the world. The capability to rapidly find information hidden with steganography in the field may prevent the loss of classified or highly sensitive information, circumvent a terrorist attack, or even save the life of a child,” said Bart Guerreri, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Backbone Security.

StegAlyzerFS will be undergoing field trials soon and product rollout is scheduled for Q3 2012.

FAIRMONT, W.Va., May 1, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Backbone Security is pleased to announce the release of the latest version of their Steganography Application Fingerprint Database (SAFDB) which now contains 1,050 steganography applications.

Developed in Backbone’s Steganography Analysis and Research Center (SARC), SAFDB is the world’s largest commercially available hash set exclusive to digital steganography applications.

The database is widely used by U.S. and international government and law enforcement agencies, the intelligence community, and private sector digital forensic examiners and network security professionals to detect digital steganography applications on seized digital media and within inbound and outbound network traffic streams.

Discovery of a steganography application during a digital forensics examination is a strong indication the application has been, or will be, used to conceal evidence of criminal activity. Detecting a steganography application in the inbound network traffic stream is a strong indication an insider will use the application to steal sensitive information.

SAFDB is an integral part of the Steganography Analyzer Artifact Scanner (StegAlyzerAS), a digital forensics application, and the Steganography Analyzer Real-Time Scanner (StegAlyzerRTS), a network security appliance that detects the presence or use of steganography in the inbound and outbound network traffic stream in real-time.

Existing customers may download an updated version of StegAlyzerAS and StegAlyzerRTS that contains SAFDB v3.13 by logging into their account on the SARC Customer Portal at http://www.sarc-wv.com/customer_portal/ .

For additional information about Backbone’s steganalysis tools, please visit the SARC web site or send email to sarc@backbonesecurity.com.

About the SARC:
The SARC was established to create and maintain a national repository of digital steganography applications, fingerprints, and signatures that can be used during forensic examination of seized digital storage media or when monitoring network traffic for malicious insider behavior. The Steganography Application Fingerprint Database (SAFDB) is the world’s largest database exclusive to digital steganography applications.
SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 1, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- SecuGen, the world's leading optical fingerprint device vendor, is pleased to announce the availability of biometric identity management and fraud prevention for SAP(R) system users with the combination of SecuGen(R) Hamster(TM) Plus and Hamster(TM) IV fingerprint readers and bioLock(TM) software from realtime North America Inc.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 1, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — SecuGen, the world’s leading optical fingerprint device vendor, is pleased to announce the availability of biometric identity management and fraud prevention for SAP® system users with the combination of SecuGen® Hamster™ Plus and Hamster™ IV fingerprint readers and bioLock™ software from realtime North America Inc.

SecuGen fingerprint scanners are fully compatible with bioLock software, which gives SAP users biometric control of sensitive system activities at granular levels, such as financial transfers, access to customer or vendor master data and viewing of confidential company reports or intellectual property. Biometric credentials can be re-authenticated when users request restricted information or perform mission-critical activities, using a SecuGen Hamster series reader combined with bioLock software. Passwords become irrelevant and are replaced with robust biometric control. This enhances governance, regulatory compliance and strictly enforces Segregation of Duties (SoD) procedures.

SecuGen fingerprint readers are well known around the world for being accurate, rugged, and affordable. The Hamster Plus and Hamster IV feature Auto-On™, an Automatic Finger Placement Detection technology that checks for the presence of a finger without prompting, thus improving speed significantly. Recognition of difficult fingerprints, such as dry, wet, scarred or aged skin, has been enhanced with Smart Capture™, which adjusts brightness to adjust for such conditions.

Jeff Brown, VP of Sales and Marketing stated, “Our Hamster readers work seamlessly with bioLock and SAP software to give security administrators more control than ever before. If a user fails a SecuGen biometric authentication by attempting an unauthorized activity, a supervisor can be automatically alerted by email of the logged security violation. The SecuGen Hamster reader therefore becomes an integral part of an SAP data loss and insider fraud prevention system.”

“The SecuGen Hamster Plus and Hamster IV are very easy to use with great speed and image quality,” stated Thomas Neudenberger, COO of realtime North America Inc. “We are very impressed with the ergonomics and quality of these readers. The adoption and acceptance of biometrics in corporate environments is dependent on ease of use and convenience as provided by SecuGen’s Hamster line of fingerprint readers.”

Won Lee, CEO of SecuGen, added, “We are very pleased to be working with realtime AG and realtime North America. Together we are able to provide a level of security demanded by SAP customers which happen to be some of the world’s most visible corporations.”

DETROIT, Mich., April 5, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — U.S. Publications, Inc. announced this week the launch of an application – Criminal Tracker – designed for the new Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It quickly tracks criminals and sex offenders within a requested 40-mile radius.

A study performed by the U.S. Department of Justice revealed that sex offenders were about four times more likely than non-sex offenders to be arrested for another sex crime after their discharge from prison – 5.3 percent of sex offenders versus 1.3 percent of non-sex offenders. And, 60 percent of convicted sex offenders are on parole or probation.

“This information is concerning,” says Simon Gojcaj, president, U.S. Publications. “That’s why we’ve decided to release this app. This app differs from similar ones in that users can enter any U.S. zip code to learn of criminals and sex offenders within a designated 40-mile range of that region in real time. Other apps only allow you to search the user’s immediate region.”

Once the zip code and mile range is entered, the app populates and tracks all sex offenders and criminals and provides names and addresses on a visual map of chosen settings.

Criminal Tracker works closely with law enforcement and the public to ensure that its database is kept up to date with the most comprehensive National Criminal Index available.

One app user said, “I could not believe who I was living by. It was a real wake-up call.”

“We live in a day and age where you just cannot be too careful,” says Gojcaj. “Neighborhood watches are often not enough and we all want to protect our children’s safety. You just never know what criminals may be lurking in your neighborhood. Criminal Tracker gives people an inside view so they are more educated and informed about local arrest warrants and more.”

Criminal Tracker’s mission is to create a better-informed citizenry, to reduce crime and to keep families as safe as possible.

Currently, Criminal Tracker is offering the first three look-ups for free.

It’s easy to use and available at: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/criminal-tracker!/id490605714?mt=8.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 21, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — SecuGen and BridgePoint Systems are collaborating to introduce the new TrustPoint 3-Factor Biometric Reader, BridgePoint’s flexible solution. The new Reader offers a variety of security options including biometric, PIN and optional PKI challenge-response authentication for increasing or decreasing the level of security, depending on the user’s requirements. The new Reader will be available for preview at SecuGen’s booth, number 18139, at next week’s ISC West 2012 exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The TrustPoint 3-Factor Biometric Reader contains SecuGen’s PIV compliant fingerprint OEM module, the SDA04, and is the only device of its kind that is Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) compatible. It is designed to authenticate Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credentials and mitigate electronic cloning. Attackers who otherwise could make a copy of a PIV credential and then build a clone will not be able to do so when BridgePoint’s TrustPoint 3-Factor Biometric Reader is in-place. The attacker cannot copy the private keys that are required to achieve a cryptographic PKI challenge-response, which the BridgePoint Reader is uniquely configured to verify. As a result, attackers are not able to succeed when it comes to getting past either the Personal or Card Authentication Key (PAK and CAK) mechanisms.

The TrustPoint 3-Factor Biometric Reader features an advanced, weather-resistant, slim-line design, a user friendly telephone-style keypad, a bright 2 line by 16 character display, a stainless steel conduit port, a USB programming port and dual tamper switches for detecting unauthorized removal.

“When designing this state-of-the-art reader, we were drawn to SecuGen’s fingerprint sensors and OEM modules,” said Thomas E. Corder, president and CEO of BridgePoint Systems. “We felt the technology was unmatched due to its high quality and reasonable pricing structure. “We are very pleased to work with SecuGen and look forward to a long relationship between our two companies.”

Jeff Brown, VP of Sales for SecuGen added, “The TrustPoint 3-Factor Biometric Reader is truly unique in its ability to present a cryptographic PKI challenge-response. We are excited about the prospects for this product.”

Won Lee, CEO of SecuGen stated, “Our goal has always been to deliver reliable, accurate, and affordable products for our developer partners. We are very pleased with BridgePoint Systems’ new Reader and we are honored to play a part in bringing this new product to market.”

About BridgePoint Systems:

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Feb. 28, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Treadstone 71 announced at the RSA Conference two new certification tracks. The Cyber Intelligence Analyst and the Cyber Counterintelligence (CI) Analyst Certifications focus upon real world, practical activities coupled with theory. The certifications enhance the overall cybersecurity posture of the United States by accelerating the availability of educational and training resources.

“Skilled cyber intelligence and CI analysts participate in the full range of attack surface reduction, OSINT gathering and OPSEC activities resulting in actionable intelligence,” said Jeff Bardin, Chief Intelligence Officer for Treadstone 71 LLC. “The certified analyst engages in activities directly related to the resiliency of government and corporate entities.”

The Certified Cyber Intelligence Analyst studies targeting, collection, production, analysis and reporting opportunities. This includes topics in online anonymity, critical thinking, analysis (cultural, pattern, link, etc.), and a focus on reporting of actionable intelligence.

The Certified Cyber CI Analyst becomes proficient in active cyber CI operations blending theoretical study and live exercises effectively equipping analysts. Topics in denial, counterdenial, deception, counterdeception, perception management are covered.

“Adversaries conduct cyber operations collecting intelligence, disrupting and degrading our cyber operational readiness,” continued Bardin. “Intellectual property is very attractive to adversary exploitation.”

The National Counterintelligence Executive states that CI plays a critical role in reversing the benefits that cyber operations afford our adversaries. Cyber CI collection and analysis increases our understanding of the adversary and how to defend against them. CI operations help identify adversarial tactics reducing the effectiveness of their operations. Collectively, these CI activities increase the cost and risk of our adversaries’ operations while reducing their benefits. CI plays a critical role in enhancing the cybersecurity posture of the United States.

“Adversaries conduct inexpensive operations against our infrastructure resulting in high returns with a low degree of risk in a very short period of time,” stated Bardin. “Adversaries use the Internet to bolster their intelligence activities against the U.S. It is critical that we equip cybersecurity and intelligence professionals with the capabilities to counter these threats.”

The Certified Cyber Intelligence Analyst track starts April 2 and the Certified Cyber CI will be operational during the early summer of 2012.

A unique feature of StegAlyzerAS is the capability to process the Windows registry to detect keys and values associated with steganography applications. A steganography application can be uninstalled and the files and folders associated with the application can be deleted; however, there may keys or values in the registry that would indicate the associated steganography application had been installed on the computer at one time.

StegAlyzerAS v3.8 features enhanced Windows registry scanning capability that substantially decreased the time required to scan an offline Windows registry.

Bart Guerreri, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Backbone Security, said “We are sensitive to the time it takes forensics examiners to process the ever growing amount of digital storage media. Accordingly, we are very pleased to offer a new version of StegAlyzerAS that features a significant reduction in the time required to scan a Windows-based computer.”

StegAlyzerAS is a member of the StegAlyzer family of products developed in Backbone’s Steganography Analysis and Research Center (SARC). Other products in the StegAlyzer family include the Steganography Analyzer Signature Scanner (StegAlyzerSS) and Steganography Analyzer Real-Time Scanner (StegAlyzerRTS).

StegAlyzerSS detects more signatures of steganography applications than any other commercially available product and provides a unique “point-click-and-extract” interface to extract hidden information.

StegAlyzerRTS is the world’s only commercially available network security appliance capable of detecting steganography in real time in the inbound and outbound network traffic stream.
