AKUM, Cameroon, May 3, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Cameroon Partnership in Development today announces a program, Cameroon Cultural Travelling and Volunteering, started by Anja Schwarz from Germany, an adventure traveler interested in cultures, who prefers experiencing another culture as a member of that community, and in the process, finds opportunities to transform lives in communities in need.

Anja Swartz is Empowering Rural Villages in Santa Division, North West Region, Cameroon through a program that combines Village Cultural Heritage Preservation, and Volunteerism to build up a global partnership towards achieving sustainable development and livelihood opportunities for the people and a fulfilling experience for volunteers.

Last November 2012, Anja Schwarz spent four weeks in the rural villages of Akum and Baligham , empowering the villagers, especially women examine their cultural heritage assets and figure out rural cultural tourism offerings and volunteering opportunities for national and international travelers.

By promoting Cultural Heritage travel, they show tourists the local culture and traditions, food and cooking techniques, folklore, art and lifestyle of their villages. Revenue from the Cultural Heritage tourism industry expands livelihood opportunities and sustainable development, building schools, water projects, improved housing, wellness and nutrition and access to health care.

Cameroon Partnership in Development is partnering with Cameroon Cultural Travelling and Volunteering, an alliance that will provide volunteering solutions to an array of volunteers: students, faith-based groups, corporations, retirees, researchers, who are looking to contribute to local grassroots development initiatives and cultural tour packages for adventure travelers seeking an authentic cultural immersive experience.

The Cameroon Partnership in Development, International Volunteerism component will function as a platform where volunteers and adventure travellers will access volunteering opportunities, tour packages, exchange ideas, success stories and customized program design services.

What is particularly unique and innovative about Cameroon Cultural Travelling and Volunteering program? It has been designed from Anja Schwarz’s experience living among the rural villagers as a volunteer and adventure traveller, participating in the daily village life activities such as, farm work, food preparation, and working with kids and women with disabilities.

Anja Schwarz’s volunteer experience includes work in South America and recently Thailand where she skated 1,000 km to raise cash for the Baan San Fan Orphanage in southern Thailand.

“We thought of the 14 children at the orphanage and the need to expand to accommodate 40 children and that is how the skate challenge was born.”

“I think we wanted to give something back to Thailand for being such a great host country to us,” explained Anja.

“I want to tell you about my amazing travel experiences living in the North West Region of Cameroon. Whether you are a traveler just passing by or a long time volunteer, you are welcome to visit us here in Baligham or Akum every time!” said Anja (http://cameroonnorthwestculturaltourism.wordpress.com ).

“My mission is to support these large number of individual and development associations together with CPID ( cameroonpartnershipindevelopment.org ) to build up a global partnership towards achieving sustainable development in order to improve their livelihoods for their families and to contribute positively to the economic and political situation in the country,” adds Anja.

“We are empowered and hopeful, as a result of Anja’s trip,” remarks Henrietta Galabe who is coordinating rural village homestays in Akum and Baligham villages for volunteers and adventure travellers.

“The various villages are looking to start or enhance their unique cultural assets: Folk Art and Crafts, Music, traditional cuisine, festivals,” adds Henrietta.

About Cameroon Partnership in Development:
The purpose of Cameroon Partnership in Development (CPID) is to act as an umbrella of support for the large number of development associations and individuals in Cameroon, and inspire them to be involved in an informed, coordinated and effective way of service delivery, project development, and building partnership links in Cameroon and globally through skills training workshops, seminars, conferences and innovative forums that build their capacity to be better global partners in Sustainable Development

Our mission is to foster mutually beneficial links between Cameroon and globally, and encourage the development of sustainable projects in Cameroon to strengthen their livelihoods so that they can better provide for their families and country.

KALISPELL, Mont., Feb. 28, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — When the Flathead Community Foundation climbed on board as the title sponsor for the 2012 Montana Dragon Boat Festival, they knew they were in for a wild ride. After a rip-roaring success in 2012, including the $75,000 raised by local non-profits, the Flathead Community Foundation returns as this year’s lead sponsor, it was announced today by the Kalispell Convention and Visitor Bureau.

Working to pair local philanthropists and donations with area non-profits, the goal of the Flathead Community Foundation is to improve the quality of life in the Flathead, forever. The Montana Dragon Boat Festival, hosted by the Kalispell Convention and Visitors Bureau, first sparked the imagination of executive director, Lucy Smith, in early 2012. Smith, impressed with the event’s potential to showcase the Flathead, also saw its possibilities for raising awareness of the Flathead Community Foundation and the non-profits it supports. The Foundation Board was on deck from the outset and it was Paddles Up! for Title Sponsorship.

“The Montana Dragon Boat Festival is a perfect fit for the Flathead Community Foundation because of the tremendous opportunity to showcase the Flathead Valley’s greatest resources, from beautiful and pristine Flathead Lake, to thriving local businesses and institutions, to the many nonprofit organizations that serve our community,” says Smith.

In order to follow through on the commitment to serve as title sponsor, the Flathead Community Foundation raised $10,000 to back the sponsorship. The sponsorship investment paid strong dividends in community awareness and funds raised for area non-profits participating in the event.

“The Flathead Community Foundation teamed with the Montana Dragon Boat Festival because of its potential benefit for area nonprofit organizations. Participating in this exciting, high visibility event creates a wonderful opportunity for organizations to raise money and awareness, involve volunteers, and have a blast doing it,” Smith continues.

Non-profits across the Flathead Valley took on the challenge, with 20 entering teams or banding together with other groups to fill a boat. Among the ranks were Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flathead County, Dream Adaptive Recreation, and the Flathead Valley Hockey Association. Other visionary groups such as The Hockaday and A Ray of Hope helped round out the field, each recognizing the unique opportunity presented to highlight the contributions of their organization.

“The foundation of DREAM is that outdoor recreational activities enhance life for individuals with disabilities,” shares executive director for DREAM, Cheri L. DuBeau. “Working together with people who believe in our mission and those who benefit from it in one of the world’s most beautiful backdrops banded us together as a stronger team and helped spread the vision to new supporters.”

The Flathead Valley Hockey Association leveraged the event to build team unity for their upcoming winter season. Team participants were so enthusiastic about its success that the association plans to enter two boats loaded with players – one recreational and one competitive – in 2013. Other non-profits also benefited financially with many raising between $2,000 and $7,000.

“The Montana Dragon Boat Festival creates a perfect metaphor for our community; we are all in the same boat together whether professional business services, non-profits, entrepreneurs, students, or philanthropists,” said Smith. “When we align our different strengths and paddle together, we can move farther and faster than any one of us can do alone. That is the great joy, pride, and power in being a part of the Flathead and its Dragon Boat Festival.”

In 2013, the Flathead Community Foundation will again host the Triple Threat, a trio of dragon boat racing teams open to nonprofits and individuals wishing to participate on a smaller scale and economy than organizing a 22-person dragon boat team. In addition to a place on the racing team, Triple Threat registration for the two-day event will include a signature team shirt and other adornments, special event raffle ticket, tent decorations and an optional donation to the Foundation’s Flathead Fund for community grants and awards to area nonprofits.

For more information about the Flathead Community Foundation, contact Lucy Smith at 756-9047, or email lucy@flatheadcommunityfoundation.org. The volunteer Board has announced a celebratory, expanded schedule of events with something for all ages and interests taking place over the Festival’s 10-day period for 2013: snow sculptures, an historic Voyageur Encampment, a skiing/snowshoeing triathlon, a crafts fair, a dance, several food events, musical concerts, educational programs, and the annual Ely ArtWalk.

The cornerstone of the Festival is the International Snow Sculpting Symposium in the town’s Whiteside Park with 20 smaller “amateur” blocks and more than 20 large “expert” blocks, each carved by a team composed of three or more. The Symposium has reached out to all past carvers for an expanded Symposium this year.

“We’re all working hard to bring snow to the park,” said Chris Ellerbroek, co-director of the Symposium. “There’s plenty in the area, it’s just a matter of getting it in trucks and filling the forms.”

Alongside the carvers in the park is an authentic Voyageur Encampment, with the participants in historic garb camping outside over the three-day weekend.

The downtown area of the town becomes a veritable art gallery, as merchants clear their windows to display local artists’ works in the Ely ArtWalk, which runs over the 10 days of the Festival. Over 450 pieces of art by 120 artists were displayed in 2012, and this year expectations are similar.

On Thursday, January 31, 2103, the Ely Steak house hosts the Snow Carver’s Jam as local musicians jam in an entertaining evening of music.

Ely Community Resource hosts a Spaghetti Feed on Friday evening, February 1, benefiting local youth and families, followed by an Opening Ceremony Concert, which will include musical entertainment and the “passing of the paddle” to this year’s Grand Marshals, Emily Wahlberg and Barb Berglund.

During the day on Saturday, February 2, is the NLAA crafts fair, a fish fry at Veterans-on-the-Lake Resort, and the second annual Boathouse Brewpub Winter Classic Triathlon sponsored by the Nordic Ski Club. The latter involves snowshoeing, skiing and drinking (water, that is!).

Also on Saturday, Vermilion Community College holds an open house, the Dorothy Molter Museum, the Wolf Center and Bear Center are all open for visits, the Ely ArtWalk holds its Artists’ Meet and Greet, and Twin Metals Minnesota will be hosting an open house.

Saturday night is the second annual Polar Bear Dance, presented by the Ely Rotary from 8:00 PM to midnight at Amici’s Event Center. Raffle items will be available, and proceeds benefit community projects, including the Winter Festival. The dance is an adults-only event.

The Amateur Snow Carving Contest is judged on Sunday morning, February 3.

The second weekend of the Festival is packed with events as well. On Thursday evening, Jerritt Johnson, Director of Education, presents “Wolves as a Political Barometer” at the International Wolf Center. E3 will also present an Energy Symposium talk at Vermilion Community College that night.

On Friday, February 8, the Boundary Waters Blues Fest and Ely TV will host a blues concert at Amici’s Event Center. That evening the film about the campaign for clean water, “Sled Dogs to Saint Paul,” will be screened at Vermilion College.

For outdoor and history enthusiasts, on Saturday, February 9, Outward Bound guides a group by snowshoe to the Hegman Lake Native American Pictographs (snowshoes are provided). Also on Saturday, the Vermilion Law Enforcement Club hosts in an ice-fishing contest on Shagawa Lake, and the Igloo-Creek Ridge Third Annual Radar Run snowmobile event will be held on White Iron Lake.

Saturday night the Dorothy Molter Museum hosts a fundraising dinner at Grand Ely Lodge. Silent auction and raffles are offered with proceeds benefitting the Museum Foundation.

On Sunday, February 10 at 2:30 p.m. in the Washington Auditorium, the Mesabi Community Orchestra presents a celebration of Nordic music with selections by Nielsen, Sibelius, and Grieg.

Festival pins, T-shirts, beanies, brochures and information will be available during the Festival at their Headquarters, the Front Porch Coffee and Tea Co. on Sheridan Street in Ely.

Up-to-the-minute details on events and Festival news can be found on the Festival’s website ElyWinterFestival.com. Of special interest is a live web cam of the park and the snow sculptures available on the site during the Festival.

ALAMEDA, Calif., Dec. 12, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Pacific Pinball Museum (PPM) welcomes the public to experience pinball with a European flair. Play a game on the newest addition to their exciting collection of more than 80 playable games: a 1967 Rally West Club. This game marks the one resident of their collection not produced in the United States. Rally was a French pinball manufacturer designing games for the European market.

This unusual source for pinball results in West Club embodying European design sensibilities from the Mod era of the 1960s. In some ways the game is a full decade ahead of American pinball design. Solid State score displays and sounds capture a moment of French ingenuity in an otherwise American monopoly.

Lovingly restored by long-time pinball tech and operator and former Atari engineer, Dan Kramer, through West Club’s patient restoration, Kramer has entered the realm of virtuoso technician. The PPM retains a collection of several hundred machines in a warehouse in Alameda.

While perusing the warehouse one day with PPM Executive Director, Michael Schiess, Kramer said, “Mike, give me a machine to work on for the museum. I’m looking for something really different, I want a real challenge.”

Clearly, PPM must have something that could measure up to Kramer’s long established skill repairing antique American pinball games with complicated wiring and logic and parts that are near impossible to find.

That’s when Schiess brought Kramer past the West Club machine. The rare and valuable machine was a donation from Jim Dietrick of Pinball Revival Co., who’d been unable to restore the game due to the extreme rarity of Rally parts in America. The machine needed a lot of work and it had another huge strike against it: it was French. For Kramer, however, this didn’t pose a problem, as he speaks fluent French and comes from a French family. Kramer had found his pet project.

Over a year’s time, Kramer systematically tracked down individual parts for the machine as they miraculously appeared on French eBay and eventually brought this beautiful game back to full working condition. “That game is the most transcendental pinball experience I’ve had in years,” said PPM board member Jem Gruber. “Out of some 400 games at our pinball expo, this game from 45 years ago really caught my eye!”

Candy colored lights and a strong pastel color-scheme make West Club an amazing feast for the eyes. From a technical standpoint, West Club marches to a different drummer. The game boasts DC coil power and grounded legs and chassis along with Nixie electronic tube scoring displays, solid state sound, frictionless electromechanical bumpers and kickers, upper playfield kicking mechs, relay bank security braces and fold away tubular metal legs and rubber cushioned feet — all of which predate any kind of similar feature on American pinball games. Top that off with the lit colored translucent posts covering the playfield, and West Club carves out a unique place for itself in the Pacific Pinball Museum collection.

“Having West Club displayed prominently at the front of our museum gives our staff a chance to use it as a teaching tool,” said PPM curator Melissa Harmon. “The game so clearly presents the essential aspects of our mission: art, history and science. The game helps position American and European art styles and technology in a particular moment of history.”

The public loves playing West Club. “Sometimes that game gets more attention than the newer ones in back,” said PPM front-man John Briggs. Hit 1 thru 6 in sequence to unlock the highest scoring modes. Hit the die, the knife, the hand, then the lips, the cards and the police. Top 4500 points for your first replay. By then you’ll be hooked.

The Pacific Pinball Museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to teaching art, science and history through pinball and preserving this important part of American culture.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 1, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Luxury RV rentals are not just for special occasions. Staff at Allstar Coaches will tell you that it gets creative and practical client requests as well.

Rob Tischler, CEO of Allstar Coaches, says that there are so many reasons to rent a luxury RV that many people have likely never even considered.

Right now, in the midst of football season, tailgating is a top reason to rent a luxury RV. More and more tailgaters are stepping it up a notch and arriving at sporting and NASCAR events in style.

RV rentals are also perfect for promotional tours such as political rallies, concerts or family and college reunions. And businesses can take advantage too.

“RV rentals are ideal and cost effective for advertising,” he says. “For example, if a company is launching a new product, why not wrap it and drive it around a targeted demographic area and interact directly with potential consumers? It’s basically a 45 foot rolling billboard that you can take anywhere.”

Luxury motorhome rentals also serve as a discerning travelers golden ticket to the ultimate fantasy vacation. With Allstar Coaches recently teaming up with some of the world’s finest private aircraft and yacht charter companies, the possibilities are endless.

Finally, RV rentals can serve as temporary housing or field offices during times of emergency or disaster situations such as hurricanes, fires and more.

These luxury RV rentals are equipped with comfortable and well-appointed cabins, gourmet galleys, and state-of-the-art, user-friendly technology. RV rentals also include multiple slide outs and automatic awnings that, when extended, almost double usable space.

“Our innovative ‘Hotel On Wheels’ concept means that our luxury RV rentals come pre-stocked with items such as luxury hotel bedding, fresh towels and invigorating ECO Spa bath products,” Tischler says. “Concierge services, itinerary planning, driving – you name it – our clients can rest assured that we’ll take care of it all.”

About Allstar Coaches:
But, Allstar’s luxury RV rentals and Hotel On Wheels™ can be delivered to locations across the nation.

Allstar Coaches is paving the way and setting new standards in the luxury motorhome rental market. RV rentals continue to grow in popularity.
Rob Tischler, CEO of Allstar Coaches (www.allstarcoaches.com), reports that its firm has seen a large increase in RV rental sales due to soaring airfares.

“People are tired of not having control over when and how they travel,” Tischler says. “Our luxury RV rentals ensure that people travel in style – on their own terms.”

Renting a luxury RV also allows people to travel with pets; this is often a concern for families looking to hit the road. The benefits and advantages to RV rentals are numerous.

For example, many customers want to combine the adventure of RVing with luxury, five-star hotel amenities. As a result, Allstar offers its clients an array of high-level concierge services that include anything from arranging private chefs and drivers to full itinerary and customized route planning.

“Whether a client wants to hot air balloon at sunrise or ski down a sand dune at sunset, we can make it happen. Our RV renters quickly discover what sets us apart from the rest of the industry,” Tischler says. “We are truly a hotel on wheels. All of our luxury RV rentals boast fully-equipped kitchens, satellite television, hotel-style bedding, fresh towels and ECO Spa bath amenities. It’s the little things that make a big difference.”

This concept is the brain-child of Jud Yaski and Steve Juba, co-founders. Unlike traditional “glamping” companies that are stationary, Destination Earth has created a resort that travels to the best destinations in California.

All they require is a water source, a beautiful environment, and access by car or boat.

“Destination Earth brings the comfort of your home into the wilderness. Isolated lakes and remote white water rivers are transformed into a plush private resort literally overnight,” says Jud Yaski, co-founder. “We also provide a fresh way to experience nature in comfort at tourist destinations such as Mendocino, California wine country, Monterey, Yosemite, and other locations upon request.”

Destination Earth’s mobile resort includes a portable hot tub, hot showers, a bar, queen size full height beds, remote control lighting, cabin tents, night stands and a mirror, and even an inflatable couch.

Gourmet meals are artfully prepared by a private chef; in a complete kitchen featuring a full size propane fridge, shelving, propane ovens and stoves, and yes, the kitchen sink complete with hot pressure water.

Evenings bring large screen movies projected with a low power LED projector, music, and interactive games. Powered by a solar array, all this luxury sits elegantly in a low carbon footprint.

All Inclusive eco glamping trips are offered on the website www.destination-earth.org. The airline industry’s seemingly relentless commitment to create innovative new ways to bilk consumers is finally driving them away. With no end in sight, even with fuel prices steadily declining, the cost of air travel continues to rise, reaching levels that travelers haven’t seen since Congress was forced to step in with the Airline Deregulation Act in 1978.

RV rental companies such as Florida based Allstar Coaches, appear to be the largest beneficiaries of the airline industry’s antics and are reaping the rewards. Allstar, who specializes in luxury motorhome rentals, is reporting their highest volume since opening in 2006.

“For years airlines have been taking more and doing less. The public has had enough and is finally pushing back,” said Rob Tischler, CEO of Allstar. “Now that the levy has broken, we are here to help pick up the pieces,” he adds. Now, to add just a bit more salt to an already gaping wound, the TSA along with several major airlines have proposed to double the mandatory security fee on every ticket sold.

Doreen Santos, a registered nurse who resides in Allentown, Pa. with her husband and three boys, was shocked when she learned that airfare to Orlando that usually cost her about $200 per person was now going for more than $500. Determined not to give up their vacation, the family decided to rent an RV and make the journey to Florida part of their adventure.

“We’ve gone to Disney every year since the kids were born. I couldn’t even imagine having to tell them we couldn’t go this year,” said Santos. “My kids were ecstatic when they found out we were taking an RV. When all was said and done, without the hotels and airfare, we saved about $2700.”

Families looking to head out on the highways in an RV can save money at virtually every turn. Without the added burden of overpriced hotels and airfares, there isn’t a need for rental cars or expensive restaurants. Allstar’s rental units are equipped with full functional kitchens, spacious, comfortable cabins and come outfitted with everything one would expect to find in a luxury vacation rental. “Ours just happen to have a couple sets of wheels attached,” said Von Isanogle, Allstar’s fleet manager.

With the exorbitant price of airfares and nickel and dime fees airlines charge for baggage, seating and food, it’s no wonder travelers are looking for alternatives. RVing is one that offers travelers the comforts of home and the convenience of traveling on their own time.
