SIOUX CITY, Iowa, May 2, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — HVS Capital Corp (hvscapital.com) has been exclusively appointed to sell the Sioux City Hotel & Conference Center in Sioux City, Iowa, a 193-room hotel connected by skyway to the Convention Center and Mercy Medical Center. The property is 12 stories tall and includes 13,300 square feet of meeting space, featuring the best views in town from its top floor ballroom.

The Sioux City Hotel & Conference Center is blocks away from the new $118.5 million Hard Rock Casino, scheduled to break ground in July 2013 and open in September 2014. The casino complex plans to offer round-the-clock action on its 800 slots and 32 tables and will amplify Sioux City’s nightlife with its 800-seat concert hall and 3,000-person outdoor venue. The Hard Rock Casino is expected to generate in excess of $100 million of revenue in its first year of operation and attract over one million annual visitors in conjunction with the downtown’s existing entertainment venues.

“The Hard Rock Casino development is the piece de resistance in Sioux City’s downtown renaissance and will become an anthem for continued economic development efforts,” said Bill Sipple, Executive Managing Director of HVS Capital Corp. “The Sioux City Hotel & Conference Center, situated halfway between the Hard Rock and Historic 4th Street, is poised to take its place in the revival. An opportunistic buyer can acquire this hotel asset at significant discount to replacement cost, undertake renovations and affiliate the property with any of several global brands who would love to fly their flag here.”

Located 100 miles north of Omaha on the eastern banks of the Missouri River, Sioux City sits where Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota meet. Money has honored Sioux City as a “Best Place(s) to Live,” and three times in six years, Site Selection has ranked the metro first nationally in its category for economic development.

CLIVE, Iowa, Sept. 25, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Scale Faster of Des Moines, Iowa has reinvented the customer experience in one of the most draining issues for business owners – I.T. With the launch of its new retail studio at 2035 100th St. in Clive, Scale Faster has created an environment where customers can get comfortable, ask questions, and learn how to shed the pain of I.T. forever.

The Scale Faster concept was developed from a deep desire to create a customer experience uncluttered by confusing technical jargon and a tired sales process. By designing a complete solution “from the ground to the cloud,” the Scale Faster team’s prime directive is to listen.

“We’re in the business of pain relief and the psychological well being of business owners,” said Doug Mitchell, CEO of Scale Faster. “In our target sector of customers from 1 to 100 employees, owners want to focus on value creation and growing their businesses and could care less about networks, storage, and backups. We give owners a way to never think about I.T. again.”

The retail space is designed with exploration and visual learning in mind. White boards line the walls and a 6 foot x 3 foot, high-topped table with butcher paper ensure plenty of surfaces to visualize a company’s present and its future without the burden of I.T.

To help execute on the “Scale Faster Experience,” Mitchell assembled a team led by Michael C. Wagner, CEO of White Rabbit Group. Wagner is a nationally known speaker and consultant on creating amazing customer experience. “The customer experience begins with empathy,” said Wagner. “Technology companies tend to see every customer as a nail since they have the coolest hammer. The reality is that business owners don’t care about coolness. They want to grow with less hassle and that’s what the Scale Faster experience is all about.”

Scale Faster can take care of customer owned equipment and networks or completely transition a business into the cloud – delivering applications and providing desktop access across any device and any location. The company’s Des Moines based data center currently serves customers throughout Iowa and the Midwest.

WINTERSET, Iowa, Sept. 19, 2012 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Pumpkin Ranch owners, Dave and Jennifer Handsaker and a crew of creative, dedicated hands have accomplished what most political pundits and media have been trying for years – a path through the intricate minds of our presidential candidates. Think of it. How would you like to take a stroll through the mind of Mitt Romney or President Barack Obama? Imagine the things you would discover.

Since 2010, The Pumpkin Ranch has been celebrating autumn on their family farm by inviting the public to join in the festivities. Each year they’ve tried to top themselves with a corn maze that will astound and stupefy even the best navigators in central Iowa. This year’s maze is a 9.3-acre, 5-mile path honoring the pending Presidential election. Kids and adults alike will find themselves winding through paths creating the likenesses of President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney.

Throughout the maze, checkpoints – in a CSI-style investigation – will let participants know where they are as well as provide special promotions and giveaways for the navigators to redeem.

Dave Handsaker spoke of the development of Iowa’s Mega Corn Maze for 2012. “The idea of tilling out the candidates’ likenesses for the maze was Jennifer’s idea. So, for over six hours last month, we saw Obama’s and Romney’s faces slowly taking shape in our corn field. Considering all of the media coverage the candidates get, we’re really excited to see how people take it this year. Imagine waking up to that looking at you every morning!”

To see a time-lapse video of the corn maze being made, go to: http://youtu.be/m-KtOUP3b6c .

Along with Iowa’s “Mega Corn Maze,” The Pumpkin Ranch also provides activities parents and children can take part in. From a zip line and tire tower to jump houses and hay rides, families can come out and make an entire day of it. And let’s not forget the fare for fall season lovers like pumpkins, gourds and squash.

About The Pumpkin Ranch:
The Handsaker family has lived in Madison County for 9 years and enjoyed every minute of living in the country. The Pumpkin Ranch started in 2010 and is their way of incorporating their favorite season, autumn, with their favorite pastime, family fun! Their hope is that you and your family can enjoy a little bit of the crisp fall air, a bountiful harvest of specialty pumpkins, gourds and squash and fun activities they’ve put together.

The Pumpkin Ranch Hours: from September 29 through October 28. Saturdays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (5-9 p.m. night corn maze and partial concession stand only; no other activities run during this time); Sundays noon to 5 p.m. Please contact us for private tours.

DES MOINES, Iowa, April 6 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Announcing in 2010 that it would increase enforcement efforts, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) appears to be in hot pursuit of workforce diversity compliance among federal contractors and their subs. So writes construction-industry recruiting expert and BirdDog VP of Marketing Doug Mitchell in a newly released white paper.

“Frankly, many contractors need a wake-up call,” said Mitchell of his motivation to write the paper. “I’d much rather they get it from a white paper than a compliance officer.”

According to Mitchell, industry recruiting firm BirdDog receives weekly contact from construction firms caught off guard by the workforce diversity requirements of their state and federal contracts. It was the commonality of confusion among contractors that inspired Mitchell to gather up insight from every corner of the industry and put it together in one place, easily accessible to contractors across the nation.

In addition to the team at BirdDog, Mitchell taps a federal road & bridge contractor with OFCCP audit experience, a state Department of Transportation compliance officer and the OFCCP audit experts at consulting firm HudsonMann to round out the paper. Together, they read between the lines of agency documents to help federal contractors understand where the agency is focused, as well as the risks of failing to provide a fully documented good-faith recruitment effort.

“A company’s compliance effort only counts if it is defensible,” writes Mitchell. “In other words, a contractor can be following the rules to a tee, but if he can’t prove it, the company is at risk.”

The paper explores methods for maintaining quality documentation of all hiring, recruiting and promoting behavior inside a federal contracting firm. Among the tools described is BirdDog’s Candidate Acquisition Management System (CAMS), which assists contractors not only in their efforts to achieve compliance with affirmative action and equal opportunity employment mandates, but helps them archive that effort, as well.

“Good record-keeping is the closest thing to bulletproofing yourself,” says Neil Dickinson, managing partner of HudsonMann. “It’s no longer those who discriminate that get into trouble. It’s those who look like they are discriminating simply because they don’t have proof to the contrary.”

The white paper, “Ten Thousand Shades of Gray – The Impact of Workforce Regulations on Federal Contractors” is available for free download at http://bit.ly/diversity-white-paper (links to PDF).

DES MOINES, Iowa, March 22 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Des Moines author Douglas E. Mitchell today announced the release of his latest book, “The MultiThread Marketer: How To Hire (Or Better Yet) Become One” (ISBN: 978-1607460541).

The concept of multithreading is borrowed from computer processing where millions of calculations are conducted in parallel to speed results. The same theory can applied to conducting marketing activities in any agile business. By leveraging the expertise of numerous “threads,” a business can often make a quantum leap in marketing output.

“The MultiThread Marketer” provides business leaders a template for making the best marketing hire, provides recent graduates and mid-career professionals a road map to dramatically increase their value in the marketplace, and entertains the reader with real life anecdotes and case studies that drive the message home.

“The sheer speed and rapid execution demanded in our hyper-economy makes businesses very uncomfortable today,” says Mike Wagner, professional speaker and leadership consultant. “It takes a special skill set to harness the power of the tools and technology available today without getting overwhelmed. In our work, we see business leaders struggling because their internal teams aren’t equipped for today’s trench warfare marketing.”

Mitchell’s experience in growing his own virtual agency led to writing the MultiThread Marketing book. “I directly experienced the power and speed of putting local expert resources on my projects,” said Mitchell. “We accomplished more in 30 days than most companies achieve in a year and at a fraction of the cost.”

“The MultiThread Marketer: How To Hire (Or Better Yet) Become One” is available at Amazon.com in both print and Kindle formats at $14.95 and $9.95 respectively and on the publisher’s website www.FastPencil.com/marketplace .

The emerging technological retail sales opportunities of mobile devices piqued their interests quickly.

Continuing to innovate how floral business is done in central Iowa, Frank and Tom Boesen have worked for months in development and research, to access the power of mobile marketing and sales for Boesen the Florist. By adopting the Floral App to the Boesen the Florist merchandising and shopping experience, the Boesen brothers have opened another convenient access point for their current customers as well as opening the doors for generations of floral shoppers to come.

The Floral App, developed by a partnership of florists throughout the United States, is the first of its kind for the floral industry, allowing mobile purchase and sales for every floral opportunity imagined. Gingrich Scholarship Fund at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Since 2005, the endowment has provided annual scholarships for instrumental music majors studying piano, organ, and wind instruments.

“Luther College is most appreciative of the continuing scholarship support that Newt and Callista Gingrich provide in the form of the Newt and Callista Gingrich Scholarship Fund,” said Luther College President, Richard Torgerson. “In our sesquicentennial year at Luther, we are focusing on scholarships that provide transformational experiences for students, so this centers directly on one of our most important initiatives. This year, seven Luther students are the beneficiaries of the Gingrich Scholarship.”

“Newt and I are honored to assist talented music students and support the outstanding music program at Luther College,” said Callista Gingrich.

Callista Gingrich is the President of the Gingrich Foundation and President of Gingrich Productions in Washington, DC. She graduated from Luther College with a BA in music in 1988. Speaker Newt Gingrich is the General Chairman of American Solutions for Winning the Future and Founder of the Center for Health Transformation in Washington, DC.

Luther College is an undergraduate liberal arts institution of 2,500 students in Decorah, Iowa, offering more than 60 majors leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. An independent, residential college, Luther is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and is dedicated to emphasizing the importance of faith, leadership, and community service.

The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.

AMES, Iowa, Nov. 29 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Sometimes a hero is found at the local animal shelter. Moses, a three year old yellow lab/golden retriever, who is a certified search and rescue dog, found a missing Alzheimer’s patient earlier this month. “It takes a dog with the right stuff,” said Robin Habeger, of Paws of Life Foundation, and Moses’ handler and trainer. “Often that means the dogs do not make a good pet.”

Moses was relinquished to the Animal Rescue League in Des Moines in the spring of 2008 and placed with Habeger that summer. He started his training when he was six months old.

“Moses isn’t afraid of much and loves to bark for his toy, which is how he told me he found the missing man,” said Habeger.

Habeger and Moses certified in January, eight days after Moses turned two. “He’s a great search dog and loves his job,” Habeger added.

The man had been missing from his care facility for approximately six hours dressed in only socks, jeans and a light shirt. “With temperatures around 40 degrees during the night, exposure and hypothermia were real threats to this man’s health and well being,” said Officer Jason Tuttle who helped organize the search that night. “Without these types of highly trained dogs, we may have not had such a happy ending.” Officer Tuttle is with the Ames Police Department.

Moses and Habeger train and deploy with STAR 1 Search and Rescue, Iowa Task Force 1 and are in training with Nebraska Task Force 1. Moses was found through a program between the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and the Paws of Life Foundation.

AMES, Iowa, Oct. 21 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Extended online tests of a newly developed instrument grading system for pork carcasses (www.biotronics-inc.com/bioqscan_rd.pdf) demonstrate its ability to differentiate pork loins relative to marbling levels. Researchers have long shown that marbling in the pork loin adds significantly to juiciness and flavor of chops.

A recent journal research article supported by researchers at Colorado State University and Ohio State University also found a positive relationship between increased marbling levels and ultimate pH, a major industry standard for measuring pork quality. Years of selection for lean hogs in the USA have removed much of the intramuscular fat from the loin muscle, the fat that provides juiciness and flavor. Loss of natural pork flavor and juiciness has been replaced with salt solutions and flavor enhancers injected into the meat by processors.

Doyle Wilson, President of Biotronics, Inc. (www.biotronics-inc.com) states that, “This new instrument, called BioQscan, has now been tested on more than 20,000 pork carcasses and has proven its ability to operate effectively at chain processing speeds exceeding 1,200 carcasses per hour.” Wilson says that within milliseconds of the BioQscan(R) probe being placed on the skin of a pork carcass, the marbling level is known, allowing each carcass to be differentiated relative to its quality.

Biotronics, Inc. has spent the last 5 years developing and perfecting this technology and is now gearing up for commercial production. An added benefit to the technology is its ability to accurately measure backfat depth and loin depth through noninvasive means, two important traits in the determination of pork carcass percent lean. Pork producers could receive added payment benefits for carcasses meeting minimum marbling specifications while maintaining high percent lean values.

Foreign buyers of pork loins from the USA will be carefully watching this new pork loin grading technology. While many foreign buyers like the majority of the pork they procure from the USA, quality assessments are at best rudimentary, with loins being visually sorted by loin color and perhaps some attempt at marbling level by looking at the outside of skinned boneless loins.

The new BioQscan(R) technology allows the packer to place an instrument graded marbling level on each loin, guaranteeing that it meets minimum levels of marbling. The adequate level of marbling almost always guarantees that each and every pork chop will be juicy and have plenty of good old fashioned flavor.

It is expected that the U.S. high end restaurant chefs will also take a keen interest in this new technology. Pork flavor will increase significantly when marbling is put back in the pork loin.
