KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 9, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Many college students do not make a connection between class instruction and the reality of practical living. However, a local professor along with his former students hopes to share their story to assist others during the economic downturn. Dr. Daryl D. Green and Ms. Noriko Chapman, of PMLA, will provide two seminars for the local community, November 15th, 5:30 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial University – Knoxville campus, and November 22th, 5:30 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial University – Harrogate campus.

The purpose of these seminars is to share how faculty-student collaboration projects can assist local organizations to become more effective.

Noriko Iwanaga Chapman, a native of Japan, is a production control supervisor for DENSO Manufacturing (TN). She is a single mother of two and a cancer survivor. Chapman notes, “In 2009, when I was diagnosed with cancer, it was devastating to think about the disease and an unknown future.” She regained her strength and managed to attend Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) and enrolled in its MBA Program. She chose to assist the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center located in Maryville, as a part of her project. Chapman was inspired by the Center staff and individuals with disabilities to further develop her MBA research. The results opened more doors for Chapman. Her research was the main inspiration for her new book, “Second Chance: An In-depth Case Study on Nonprofit Organization’s Resource Allocation and Operational Maximization” (ISBN-13: 978-1453686263). It is co-authored by her LMU professor, Green.

Dr. Green also works for the Department of Energy and is a respected author of several books. He feels that today’s universities need to be relevant and results-driven. Collaboration is a one method. Dr. Green notes, “Writing a book requires a lot of energy. In fact, co-authoring a book with someone can be stressful. Yet, I saw something special in Noriko Chapman.” Since he started at LMU in 2009, Dr. Green’s students have provided over 1,400 hours of consulting hours to local organizations, such as Bechtel National and Fort Sanders Hospital. His students average over 80 hours per project. Dr. Green has also assisted over 80 students in publishing books to solve regional problems.

Chapman states, “It was a perfect project that God prepared with the perfect timing, a convenient location, hard-working people, and Dr. Green’s challenge to have students publish a book. It was a Second Chance for me to go back to school and resume my career after surviving cancer.” Chapman has become a social advocate for individuals with disabilities seeking permanent employment without reliance on public assistance. However, these collaborations would not work without a support institution.

Dr. Green explains, “LMU’s School of Business has been on the cutting edge of engaging students. It is an honor to be a part of this type of organization that wants to make a significant contribution to the local community.”

“Second Chance” provides nonprofit organizations with operation management tools to make them more efficient and better equipped to assist their clients and constituents in meeting their needs. Through the eyes of Ms. Chapman as a new MBA student, readers take a magical journey of overcoming a difficult situation in operations management and life. The book is available online at Amazon.com and other book retailers. The authors have pledged 30 percent of the proceeds to the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center.

For more information about the book or the authors, please contact Noriko Chapman at 865-379-6455 or Chance2.Noriko@gmail.com. Ms. Chapman and Dr. Green are available for media interviews.

About the Authors:
Noriko Chapman is an international traveler and a role model to millions of women looking to overcome extreme obstacles in life. Noriko is also a Lincoln Memorial University student. Dr. Daryl Green, who is Noriko’s professor, has been noted and quoted in such prominent media organizations as USA Today, the Associated Press, The Hallerin Hill Show, and Ebony Magazine. Dr. Green provides a variety of management solutions on http://nuleadership.wordpress.com or http://www.darylgreen.org .

NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 22, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Nashville based singer-songwriter Kenny Foster, a Joplin, Missouri native, has written a song based on the May 22 tornado that ravaged his hometown one month ago today, destroyed his childhood home and trapped his family in the crawl space of their home before they were rescued. Called “Hometown,” Foster’s powerful song details the emotional aftermath of the disaster, as affected families try to sort through the emotional wreckage and find a way to move on.

Foster says, “I knew what I wanted to write. A heartbreaking tale of sadness. I wanted to spill my guts. I wanted catharsis to find its way into my fingers, and let me leave it all there on the page.” But instead, Foster wrote a song of hope.

A video of Foster playing this song in Joplin found its way on to YouTube and the response required that Foster take notice. He wanted to turn the attention on the song into a way to raise awareness and funds to help Joplin.

This led Foster to work with Nashville-based producer, Vince Romanelli, to track a studio version of “Hometown.” Foster has partnered with The United Way with all funds generated by the sale of this song going toward the rebuilding efforts in Joplin and beyond.

Valerie Searcy, Director of Marketing for the United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeastern Kansas says, “This partnership with Foster is special because he is from Joplin. He knows what the city looked liked before and he can share in everyone’s vision for the future. We are so privileged to be able to partner in such a personal way to help our community and hometown.”

Foster says, “I hope this song keeps the storm-ravaged communities in our hearts and minds, and brings some solidarity between those directly affected, and the nation that stood aghast. This event will most likely be the historical benchmark that will define the youngest generation that lived through it first-hand. I hope that generation’s message is one of hope and empowerment, not despair.”

“Hometown” is receiving a global response of digital downloads while, domestically, Foster is being contacted by radio stations, eager to hear the story behind the song that is finding its way into rotation.

“Being a part of Joplin’s story is a tragic blessing” comments Foster. “In a time of tragedy, you come to see the very best of people and I can only hope that everyone can experience the outpouring of kindness that we’ve felt over the past few weeks.”

Foster has found that the reach of this song extends beyond the perimeter of the small Missouri town that was its inspiration. He hopes that “Hometown” can also encourage people that are rebuilding their hometowns in Tuscaloosa, Memphis, Fayetteville, New Orleans, and beyond, bringing hope to hometowns everywhere.

The song “Hometown” is now available on iTunes and on www.kentonfoster.com . This song is also available by request on radio stations nationwide.

NASHVILLE, Tenn., May 2, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — As a way of helping out “the little guy,” attorney K. Gabriel Heiser, author of the best-selling book “How to Protect Your Family’s Assets from Devastating Nursing Home Costs: Medicaid Secrets” (ISBN: 9780979080166; Phylius Press, 2011), has started up a free online forum to answer nursing home payment / Medicaid-related questions, at MedicaidSecretsForum.com.

The federal and state laws governing the Medicaid program have been described by one court as the regulatory equivalent of the “Serbonian bog.” The U.S. Supreme Court itself called the Medicaid statutes “an aggravated assault on the English language, resistant to attempts to understand it.” The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals described the Medicaid Act as one of the “most completely impenetrable texts within human experience” and “dense reading of the most tortuous kind.”

When the brilliant minds of our judicial system are admittedly tied up in knots trying to understand the Medicaid rules, what hope is there for the rest of us?

“I know what people are up against, how confusing it all is, and I wanted to find a way to get people the answers to their Medicaid questions as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said Heiser. “In this Internet age, it just makes sense to have an online forum–also called a bulletin board – where people can post questions and experts can answer them, all for free.”

The new forum, located at www.MedicaidSecretsForum.com, enables visitors to the site to search through and read prior questions and answers about the rules and planning techniques of paying for nursing homes and qualifying for Medicaid. A free registration entitles the visitor to post questions and comment on others’ questions.

“I’ve already published a book explaining all the Medicaid rules and the latest planning techniques to save money when faced with a family member entering a nursing home. But I started to get emails and phone calls with specific questions from readers. So I’ve started an online forum where these questions can be put in one place, available for everyone to read,” said Heiser.

To spread the work Heiser has assembled a team of Medicaid specialist attorneys and other advisors who will help with answering questions. His team includes 10 elder law attorneys who also serve as the editors of state editions of his “Medicaid Secrets” book.

Architects and designers are praising the move to stylish, light weight, super thin LED TVs from Imagenable, LLC. Facilities striving for LEED certification gain great value from lowered power consumption and extended lamp life of LED televisions. At only 1.6 inch thick LED TVs can be decoratively placed and even with mount, be within ADA Accessibility Guides.

The LED TVs are mercury free, run cooler and use up half the energy of most standard LCD TV products. So, the benefits are lower costs, less waste and more efficient products. The earth, the manufacturer and the consumer benefit.

Only Imagenable, LLC offers to hospitals and dealers a complete offering of Energy Star 4.1 rated LED/LCD TVs for healthcare.

“Eventually, all healthcare TV providers will offer LED products, but for now, Imagenable is proud to lead the way with energy efficient, mercury free TV products for healthcare facilities,” says Richard Bray, Owner of Imagenable, LLC. “Hopefully, the days of the metallic looking LCD TV are numbered as hospitals will continue to move toward sleek, stylish and efficient LED TVs.”

(SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Live-At-Home.com, a free Web site designed to assist seniors with aging at home, announced this week a recent expansion of its site’s resources and content.

Live-At-Home.com places an emphasis on health care and related issues of aging in place. Practical information is provided in an easy-to-use format and experts are available to answer individual questions.

“Many people can avoid nursing home stays using the safety measures presented on Live-At-Home.com,” says Richard Brame, founder of Live-At-Home.com, LLC. “Nursing homes should be a last resort. If a nursing home stay is needed for post-surgery rehabilitation most people should be able to return to their homes after that.”

Brame has more than 30 years of experience in the long-term care field and the idea for expansion came naturally when friends and families continually sought his expertise.

Beyond safety issues, the Baby Boomer generation is not only making decisions for their parents, but for themselves as well. Live-At-Home.com makes it easy to quickly reference information. For example, it helps people to navigate the complexities of hospital and medical billing.

One area of the Web site is devoted to insurance and explains Medicare Part A, B and D in detail. Most people don’t know that Medicare Part B is means (income) tested. Therefore, many make the wrong decision when purchasing Part B.

Other complicated or poorly understood areas that are addressed include: The Veteran’s Administration and what they can do; a Medicaid primer; definition of Medigap; information on when to start Social Security benefits; home health resources and how to use them; and long-term care insurance information.

There is also a special section on medications. This section addresses how to avoid negative drug interactions and provides resources for discounted and low-cost prescriptions. Information about the growing trend to administer intravenous medications at home is also offered.

Live-At-Home.com provides advice on how to choose a skilled nursing facility. This includes a decision tree to help people determine whether it is needed or not. It reveals best policies to consider and reviews Life Care contracts.

One of the resources first offered on this site six years ago still exists – a Home Safety Checklist – to prevent injuries that often lead to hospitalization and subsequently, a stay in a nursing home. The checklist offers guidance for dealing with medications, meals, driving, preventing falls and more.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — K. Gabriel Heiser, attorney and author of the best-selling book “How to Protect Your Family’s Assets from Devastating Nursing Home Costs: Medicaid Secrets” (Phylius Press 2010; ISBN-13: 978-0979080159), will be interviewed on the John Stossel Fox TV show Stossel, on Thursday, March 25.

John Stossel, former co-anchor of the long-running ABC News show 20/20 and now on Fox TV, will interview attorney and author Heiser as part of an hour-long show looking at the future of entitlements such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid in the U.S., in light of their increasing costs as the Baby Boomer generation ages.

Heiser was selected to appear on the show — which taped last week — because of the topic of his book, which addresses how people can protect their assets through legal means while qualifying for Medicaid to pay their nursing home bills.

“It was exciting being on the Stossel show, and more importantly, it gave me a chance to explain the role of Medicaid planning,” said Heiser. “John asked me some tough questions, and I had to explain how Medicaid planning is no different from tax planning: in each case, you are simply making use of the laws that Congress has passed, to your best advantage. There is nothing illegal, sneaky, or even unpatriotic about that!”

Heiser has been an attorney specializing in elder care and estate planning for 25 years, helping people pay for nursing home care without having to deplete their assets. His book, available at www.MedicaidSecrets.com, discusses the importance of advance planning to protect assets in the event of an upcoming nursing home stay; what to do if there is not enough time to plan; how to protect your home; what the penalties are for making gifts and when they can be ignored; and how to utilize “Medicaid-friendly” annuities as an asset protection device.

The show will air this Thursday (March 25) (on the Fox Business Network) at 8 p.m. ET. It re-runs that night at 11 p.m. ET, Friday at 10pm ET, Saturday at 7 p.m. ET, and Sunday at 10 p.m. ET.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Gabe Hizer releases comical animated cartoon for first single from his new album. Two years ago, Gabe Hizer packed up his life and moved to Mexico with the intention of going into retirement after a long career in the law. After spending only four months in a small picturesque town, he was caught unawares and emerged with a reignited passion for music, including several new songs. These songs, along with a compelling collection of additional original tracks, make up Gabe’s debut album, “Persistence of Memory.” Set to be released on April 5, Hizer’s album crackles with the fire and passion of someone who rediscovered the love of their life: music.

This varied album has been described as a cross between Joni Mitchell, Townes van Zandt and James Taylor, with a healthy dollop of blues and soul. Produced by artist/songwriter Neilson Hubbard, the CD will be available from CD Baby, Amazon.com, and from Gabe via Bandcamp (http://gabehizer.bandcamp.com ).

“Persistence of Memory” features complex guitar arrangements, moving lyrics and soulful vocals which capture the listener and delivers from start to finish. The track “Memory,” is a melancholy ballad with a dark side and powerful orchestration. On “Some Things Never Change,” Hizer is accompanied by cellist Jonathan Yudkin, a first-call string player in Nashville who both wrote and performed all the string parts for the last few Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts CDs. This minor ballad describes the plight of an elderly parent with Alzheimer’s and has been described as “a real tear-jerker with a gorgeous melody.”

Look out, though, because the album throws you a curve with the catchy and upbeat song “The Ballad of Joey and the Bottle of Booze.” To celebrate the release of this first single, Gabe hired a team of animators to visually express this amusing story. It tells the story of Joey, who steals a diamond ring and a bottle of booze, and tries to use an “insanity defense” to avoid getting tossed in jail. Enjoy. The video is available on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/v/A0azaI8yS_Q&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&hd=1 .

After many years of putting his love of music on the side in favor of his law career, Gabe’s music has only gotten stronger. One fan said, “In a world where people get sucked into boring desk jobs, it’s refreshing to see someone not only pursue their passion, but succeed at it.” Another commented, “With his three-octave vocal range, sophisticated guitar arrangements, and well-crafted songs, Gabe puts on a great one-man show!”

It’s almost as if all the years of not spending 24/7 on his music has instilled it with a sense of urgency, only making his songs all the more powerful and exciting.

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — County Commissioner candidate and former U.S. Marine, Trinity Persful, sparked some controversy this weekend at a Rise & Shine Conservative Breakfast at Dotson’s Cafe when he warned Williamson County residents against the federal usurpation of local government by means of the 2010 census. A constitutional conservative, Mr. Persful puts forth that although citizens have an obligation to be rightfully counted for purposes of representation, any demand from the federal government to provide further information is an invasion of privacy.

Mr. Persful believes the 2010 census will challenge residents to refuse to answer questions regarding ethnicity, place of residence, income level, age or any other question not directly related to the number of persons living in the household.

“Our founding fathers designed the country to have very, very limited power,” explains Mr. Persful, candidate for the 3rd District’s Spring Hill, Thompson Station area. “The power was to rest at the state level. In regards to the census, the federal government has no constitutional authority to ask citizens anything but the number of persons living in their home. When the federal government acts outside their enumerated powers, they have abandoned the ‘rule of law’ – that is, The Constitution – and they have embraced the ‘rule of men.’ They have, quite simply, broken the law.”

Having taken an oath to “support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” Mr. Persful believes his duty to his country extends beyond any tour of duty he had as a Marine Captain.

“When I took that oath, I agreed to fight for the citizens of my country and their rights,” explains Mr. Persful. “As a County Commissioner, I would fight just as hard for my fellow citizen’s rights within the local government as I would on the battlefield.”

As a fiscal conservative with an M.B.A. from Drexel University, Mr. Persful also has a strong belief that the county should operate in surplus, not debt.

In a county consisting of mostly republican candidates, Mr. Persful believes his standing as a husband, father, constitutional conservative and U.S. Marine is the strongest foundation for a County Commissioner who will defend the city, county and state rights of his fellow citizens honorably, no matter the opponent.
