ASHEVILLE, N.C. and CARLSBAD, Calif., Sept. 8, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Bob Moog Foundation and the Museum of Making Music are delighted to announce the joint auction of a Moog Little Phatty Stage II® synthesizer signed by jazz fusion legends Herbie Hancock and George Duke. The auction, which benefits both organizations, will be hosted on the Bob Moog Foundation eBay portal at http://stores.ebay.com/bobmoogfoundation from Sept. 8 to Sept. 18, 2011.

George Duke signed the back of the synthesizer after his November performance at the exhibit with the inscription “Keep Playing” and his signature. Herbie Hancock signed the iconic curved side panel of the instrument. Duke and Hancock are both considered synthesizer pioneers, making heavy use of the innovative Moog instruments in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Little Phatty® synthesizer was donated to the two organizations by Moog Music, Inc. pursuant to their joint exhibit, Waves of Inspiration: The Legacy of Moog, which was on display at the Museum of Making Music until April 2010. The Bob Moog Foundation and the Museum of Making Music both convey inspiration from music, history, and innovation, and will share proceeds from the auction.

“The Moog story is an important element of our museum,” said Carolyn Grant, executive director of the Museum of Making Music. “In fact, a quote by Bob Moog is prominently displayed in our interactive gallery: ‘Music instruments have always, from the very beginning of human history, used the most advanced technology of their time.’”

“In our work at the Bob Moog Foundation, we ignite the innovative and creative spirit,” said Michelle Moog-Koussa, executive director of the Bob Moog Foundation. “This auction, through the incredible instrument, groundbreaking artists, and wonderful collaborative partnership with the Museum of Making Music, encapsulates various facets of Bob Moog’s legacy. We are proud of this collaboration and grateful to all who have participated.”

The Little Phatty Stage II is a monophonic analog synthesizer manufactured by Moog Music since 2006. It puts the performer in control of 100% analog signal path, two Voltage Controlled Oscillators and the Voltage Controlled Filter. Other versatile features include external audio input, CV and KB gate input, full MIDI controller, MIDI over USB, MIDI Clock Sync, an arpeggiator and Tap Tempo. The Little Phatty Stage II brings true analog synthesis to contemporary performance and production, making it modern music powerhouse.

George Duke is a highly acclaimed keyboardist, synthesist, and vocalist who has enjoyed a prolific career as an R&B, funk, jazz, and rock musician and as an accomplished composer and producer. He has worked with an array of including: Jean-Luc Ponty, Frank Zappa, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, Dianne Reeves, George Clinton, Anita Baker, Miles Davis, Denise Williams, Jeffery Osborne, Regina Belle and others.

Herbie Hancock is an award winning pianist, bandleader, and composer who is considered to be a true icon of modern music. Throughout his decades-long career, he has transcended limitations and genres while still maintaining his unique, unmistakable voice. Herbie’s success at expanding the possibilities of musical thought has placed him in the annals of this century’s visionaries. He is the winner of 14 Grammy® Awards.

The Bob Moog Foundation honors the legacy of synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog through its mission of igniting the innovative and creativity spirit through the intersection of music, history, science, and innovation. Its projects include the Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, which brings electronic musical instruments into the schools to teach children science through music; the Archive Preservation Initiative, an effort to preserve and protect the inventor’s extensive and historical archive; and the future Moogseum, an innovative educational, historical, and cultural facility that will bring Bob Moog’s spirit alive through interactive, experiential exhibits (www.moogfoundation.org).

The Museum of Making Music, a division of the NAMM Foundation, has become a cultural destination with interactive and educational programs and exhibits since opening to the public in 2000. The Museum showcases the evolution of musical instruments from the late 19th century to present day in five galleries, and regularly hosts intimate concerts and hands-on workshops to introduce the public to the history of American music products. Its recent half-million dollar renovation encourages hands-on music making through state-of-the-art interactive displays and highlights music making around the world. The Museum of Making Music is located at NAMM’s international headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif. In celebration of that milestone, the Foundation is making daily announcements of new projects, branding and fundraising opportunities. Monday, August 22 saw the launch of the Moogstress blog, written by Michelle Moog-Koussa.

On Tuesday, the Bob Moog Foundation (BMF) announced their new logo, which features the innovative spirit of “Dr. Bob” and an offer for a limited edition poster designed with materials from Bob Moog’s archives. Later in the week the BMF will release a new merchandise line, “Dr. Bob’s Archive Series,” featuring artwork found in Bob Moog’s extensive archives. The BMF directs the preservation and interpretation of the archives for future generations of journalists, educators, innovators and fans.

As part of the anniversary events, synthesizer and vocal sensation Tara Busch has donated a three song EP to support its mission of “igniting the innovator inside us all.” The ethereal electronica EP, “Rocket Wife,” created specifically for and donated to the Bob Moog Foundation, is available for download at Bandcamp at the following link: http://bobmoogfoundation.bandcamp.com/album/the-rocket-wife-ep-by-tara-busch .

In conjunction with the release of the EP, Busch and the Foundation have issued a remix contest using the 17 stem tracks from the title track of the EP. The stem tracks are available for download at:
http://bobmoogfoundation.bandcamp.com/album/rocket-wife-remix-contest .

The remix contest begins August 24, 2011 and ends at midnight on October 15, 2011. All submissions should be uploaded to the “Rocket Wife” group on SoundCloud via this link: http://soundcloud.com/groups/rocket-wife-remix-contest-tara-busch-and-the-bob-moog-foundation .

The Bob Moog Foundation will announce three winners on November 10, 2011. Three winners will have their remix posted on the BMF Bandcamp site where it will be available for sale, with proceeds benefiting the Foundation. The grand prize winner will receive a framed limited-edition archival image of Bob Moog, a selection of BMF merchandise, and the opportunity to collaborate virtually with Busch on a track where she will supply vocals and synth soundscapes.

BMF Executive Director Michelle Moog-Koussa reflects “We are so grateful to Tara for sharing her stunning talents with us. The funding generated from this project will help us carry creativity and innovation to future generations through our educational outreach program, Dr. Bob’s Sound School. We are delighted to offer the ‘Rocket Wife’ remix contest, which gives people a chance to tap into their own creativity and share it with the BMF and a worldwide audience.”

About Tara Busch:
Tara Busch is an American producer/musician/remixer and score composer. She is influenced by the rich, complex harmonies of Brian Wilson, BBC Radiophonic Workshop diva Dellia Derbyshire, and the innovations and futurist attitudes of electronic music pioneer Bob Moog. She is known for her richly textured, vocally orchestral electronica, and her psychedelic, ethereal remixes.

Busch reflects, “This is a homage not only to Bob Moog and his legacy, but to the effect the synthesizer had on my music, creativity, and life. What Bob did, most famously with the Minimoog, was to make the groundbreaking world of synthesis available to everybody, not just for the privileged few. I think Dr. Bob’s Sound School will help kids to develop open, bright, embracing and creative minds.”

Busch adds, “I am excited and inspired by their quest to educate children and adults alike about ‘the intersection of science and music’ and hopefully this EP will help introduce more people to the Bob Moog Foundation. One hundred percent of the profits from the EP and the remix stems will be donated to the Bob Moog Foundation.”

About the Foundation:
The Bob Moog Foundation ignites the creative and innovative spirit in us all through exposure to interactive educational experiences rooted in the pioneering legacy of Dr. Bob Moog. Our work includes:

* Dr. Bob’s Sound School (formerly MoogLab) teaching children and adults science through music in a hands-on environment ( http://www.moogfoundation.org/2011/notes-from-the-soundschool ).
* Dr. Bob’s Archive Preservation Initiative. The BMF directs the preservation and interpretation of Bob Moog’s extensive and historic archives for future generation.
* The Moogseum, a future interactive facility where music, science, history and innovation will converge. The creation of the Moogseum is pending adequate funding.

ASHEVILLE, N.C., July 4, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — It happened so quickly. SimplyHome, a company that provides wireless technologies so physically and intellectually disabled people may live independently and that seniors may age in place, got called to help for an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project to air during the ninth season of this Emmy award-winning reality program.

The home makeover is being done for the Keefer family of York, PA. In 2008, Brian Keefer, a star athlete and college sophomore, had a gymnastics accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Brian’s family pulled together and his dad, Steve, retired early from the military to help his son with the activities of daily living.

And good things come to those who wait…this past Father’s Day, the Keefers awoke to the sound of a bullhorn, “Keefer family out.”

Along with hundreds of area volunteer workers and businesses, SimplyHome will work to install systems for independent living that will make life easier, simpler and more independent for all.

“The remodeled home will give Brian adult independence as he ages and begins a new family of his own as well as proximity to us so we may care for him as needed,” explains Steve.

Ray says that, “As I reflect on all of our original ideas, how things have grown and how we utilize technology in support of the human side of our business, it makes me so proud that we’ve been asked to be a part of a show watched by more than 10 million people.”

ASHEVILLE, N.C., June 24, 2011 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — As soon as SimplyHome was asked by the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition design team to provide some unique technology applications to support independent living for a home makeover, they loaded some trailers and vehicles and hit the road ready for action.

The home is for the Keefer family of York, PA. In 2008, Brian, a star athlete and college sophomore, had a gymnastics accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Brian’s family pulled together and his dad, Steve, retired early from the military to help his son with the activities of daily living.

As the show’s design team realized the specific needs of this family, assistive technology seemed to be a solution that would really enhance Brian’s independence and the family’s peace of mind.

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition called and asked us to create some of the solutions that would enable Brian to have more control over his environment – inside and outside his home,” explains Ian Sanders, SimplyHome’s Director of Sales.

Allen Ray, SimplyHome’s CEO, reports that since their arrival, “The production crew and staff have been absolutely amazing. And the family – they are very spiritual and I have to admit I had a lump in my throat while we talked about the plans for promoting Brian’s independence through our wireless technologies.”

Ray adds that the house has never had fewer than 75-100 construction people working at any given time with multiple vendors working together in every category. Building inspectors are very much involved and other volunteers are available to assist as needed.

Currently, the family has a two-story Colonial home and Brian is not able to access a good portion of it. This home makeover project will ensure that life becomes easier for Brian and the rest of his family – his dad, Steve, his mom, Dawn, and his brothers; Adam, Scott and Colin.

In 2003, SimplyHome began to brainstorm about the idea of creating assistive technologies to help the elderly and people with disabilities to live more independently.

“We thought if smart home technology can be used to do things like send alarms to fire and police departments or turn lights on and off remotely, why not create outcomes using technology to support individuals’ independence,” says Ray. “This experience is truly an honor, especially when you’re committed to helping people like we are,” states Ray.

This build will launch the show’s ninth season on ABC and will air this fall – the exact date is to be announced.

ASHEVILLE, N.C., April 20 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — SimplyHome will announce the launch of its new product line at the Aging in America Conference in San Francisco, April 26-30, 2011 – the SimplyHome System.

“Our SimplyHome System is the first system designed and engineered with built-in cell communication to meet the needs of the aging and disabled population. No Internet connection is required,” says Allen Ray, SimplyHome’s CEO. “Our system is portable, easy to install and to move around. In essence, it’s a plug-and-play unit with all wireless components. It’s also very unobtrusive, about the size of an answering machine, and simple and attractive in its design.”

Another factor that distinguishes SimplyHome from the competition is what is referred to as “sequential decision making.” This system does not just monitor activity; it plays an active role in determining a decision-making plan.

Based on an individual’s assessed need(s), the system is able to tie multiple events together in a home to facilitate in a positive outcome for that individual. For instance, other monitoring systems will monitor if a person gets out of bed. SimplyHome’s system takes it steps further. It not only monitors if the person is out of bed, but also if an exterior door opens and no motion has been detected in the house. While being up at 1:00 a.m. may not be unusual for this person, the opening of an exterior door is the unexpected event that would trigger notification to the designated caregiver.

These custom-tailored monitoring systems will be available for lease and range in price from $100 to $150 per month. This includes the equipment and service. SimplyHome is the first to offer such an affordable and flexible option.

Free assessments are provided to determine the best support for each family’s needs. No two systems are exactly alike.

For more information, visit: www.simply-home.com .

About SimplyHome:
Since 2003, SimplyHome, a family-owned and operated business, has provided support for the disabled and elderly. Additionally, prior to launching SimplyHome, Allen Ray’s companies owned and operated nursing homes; he is no stranger to the field of caring for the elderly and disabled.

SimplyHome exists to serve families and caregivers by providing the tools and services needed to support those who wish to live independently at home through easy-to-use assistive technology and services.

The company continues to work towards its mission of helping the aging and disabled populations, nationwide, from its offices in North Carolina and Wisconsin. This year, it is also a sponsor of the Aging in America conference (http://www.asaging.org/aia11/index.cfm) – the largest gathering of a diverse, multidisciplinary community of professionals from the fields of aging, healthcare and education.

Spectrasonics has released the “Bob Moog Tribute Library” created by renowned artists for Spectrasonics’ Omnisphere® virtual instrument software, and also kicked off a contest designed around the library, where participants enter to win the one-of-a-kind “OMG-1″ hardware synthesizer created by Spectrasonics’ Founder, Eric Persing. 100% of the proceeds from this Tribute go to benefit the Bob Moog Foundation.

Spectrasonics’ Bob Moog Tribute library features over 700 stunning new sounds for Omnisphere, Spectrasonics’ flagship synthesizer, and was produced by Persing. The sounds in the new library were created by more than 40 of the world’s top synth artists, remixers and sound designers, including Hans Zimmer, Vince Clarke (Erasure/Depeche Mode), Jean Michel Jarre, The Crystal Method, Jordan Rudess, Money Mark (Beastie Boys/Beck), Bernie Worrell (P-Funk/Talking Heads), Larry Fast (Peter Gabriel/Synergy), Roger Joseph Manning Jr. (Air/Fiona Apple), Ryuichi Sakamoto (YMO), Morgan Page (Madonna/Katy Perry), Keith Shocklee (Bomb Squad/Public Enemy), Steve Porcaro (Toto), Fredwreck (Snoop Dogg/50 Cent), Jan Hammer (Jeff Beck/Mahavishnu Orchestra), Michael Boddicker (Michael Jackson), Richard Devine (Aphex Twin), Patrick Moraz (Yes/Moody Blues), Eddie Jobson (UK/Roxy Music), Diego Stocco, Danny Elfman, The Moog Cookbook, and many more.

“Through this stunning Tribute Library, Eric Persing’s passion for sonic innovation is manifested in a multi-layered homage to Bob Moog’s pioneering work and legacy,” said Michelle Moog-Koussa, executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation. “That passion is continued through the myriad of synthesists and sound designers who have participated by donating sonic tributes in the way of patches and sounds. The Bob Moog Foundation is deeply grateful to Eric, Spectrasonics and the participating musicians for the creativity and generosity that has driven this project. Without a doubt, the funding generated from the Tribute Library will be a tremendous help in driving our mission forward.”

The grand prize in Spectrasonics’ contest, the OMG-1 hardware synthesizer, was designed by Persing as a live performance instrument and is not a commercial product – it’s truly one-of-a-kind, integrating the worlds of analog synthesis, computers, software synthesis and the latest multi-touch surfaces into one extraordinary instrument. The state-of-the-art dual manual OMG-1 combines a Moog Little Phatty® analog synthesizer, Spectrasonics’ flagship Omnisphere software synthesizer, a powerful internal Apple Mac Mini computer, dual Apple iPads®, dual iPods®, and Spectrasonics’ brand-new Omni TR™ iPad app – all integrated into a beautiful, hand-crafted curly maple cabinet created by American artisan Daniel Auon.

Contestants vying to win the OMG-1 buy and download the $100 “Bob Moog Tribute Library” for Spectrasonics’ Omnisphere software, then write one or more pieces of music utilizing the sounds from the library. The deadline for submission is July 15, 2011. Spectrasonics will be flying the contest winner to the October 2011 “MoogFest” in Asheville, NC, where Eric Persing will present the OMG-1 grand prize to the winner.

ASHEVILLE, N.C., Nov. 16 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — So, what do Microsoft’s new Xbox Kinect, Nintendo’s Wii and SimplyHome have in common? SimplyHome’s assistive technology is bringing its clients to the next level in independent living and underlying innuendos in Wii and Kinect may also have impacts on helping seniors and those with developmental disabilities to age in place more gracefully and independently.

For instance, a recent health care blogger wrote that since Kinect’s camera is able to follow people as they move about the room that scenarios for home physical therapy or medical rehabilitation with expert avatars or live health professionals is not out of the question. And, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) also understands the potential significance here as well; its recent member newsletter gave Kinect front-page coverage.

In addition, Wii has been turning up in independent living and assisted living homes around the country as a way to keep seniors active and while at first look, many may have been reluctant, more and more are embracing technology in many senses of the word.

Enter SimplyHome – a company that offers cost-effective, innovative technological solutions to provide wellness monitoring, caregiver assistance, and in-home medical alert systems for elder care or for individuals with physical or developmental disabilities.

“Our health monitor systems are designed to be less invasive than many others on the market,” explains Allen Ray, CEO of SimplyHome. “No call to action is required of the person needing assistance which allows him or her to maintain their dignity and privacy. Technology is no longer the big elephant in the room.”

For seniors, SimplyHome provides support to help them live independently at home. So, how does it work? For example, if a senior leaves the stove on, a sensor detects a potential need. An option is available where the first alert may go to the person requiring support. If that is not a preferred choice, then the first alert is sent immediately through text message, phone call or e-mail to that person’s loved one. Additionally, there are also backup people built into a “calling tree.”

While this assistive technology cannot prevent accidents, choices or behaviors, family and caregivers are notified of actions or inactivity. The systems are unobtrusive, silent and require little or no maintenance.

And, these safety monitoring systems are not just for seniors. They also benefit disabled and developmentally-disabled persons, home health providers, assisted living communities, and long-term care facilities.

“My brother has never been happier,” says one satisfied client. “He is living with greater independence and enjoys being with his roommate and friends.”

In addition to peace of mind, this assistive technology also provides financial relief. “The MetLife Market Survey of Nursing Home and Assisted Living Costs,” published in October 2010, reported that the national average for the base rate at a nursing home was $83,585, annually.

So, if a family plans today, they can save tomorrow. For instance, a study of nine consumers living independently with SimplyHome technology and staff support averaged a cost savings of $42,883.85 per person per year when compared to living at an intermediate care facility.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- While many may argue that print is a dying breed, the staff at Write Away, Inc. begs to differ; you just need to work all the angles. And, that's just what they did.

ASHEVILLE, N.C., Oct. 22 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — While many may argue that print is a dying breed, the staff at Write Away, Inc. begs to differ; you just need to work all the angles. And, that’s just what they did. Write Away, the editors for Action Pursuit Games Magazine, the world’s leading magazine for paintball and airsoft enthusiasts, published by Beckett Media, was tasked with the challenge to help improve subscription numbers and to increase reader involvement.

So, they jumped into action. They polled readers and learned what they wanted – a more interactive Web site, more training videos and a FaceBook presence where fans could interact and post event-related information and more.

So, after four months of syndicating paintball videos on YouTube, updating Facebook postings and posting fitness training videos on the magazine’s Web site, the excitement generated has slowly led to an increase in newsstand sales and subscriptions. The efficiency numbers are slowly, but surely on the rise.

As a result, the Public Relations Association of Western North Carolina (PRAWNC) recently recognized Write Away, Inc. as the winners of its, “Online Marketing-Social Media” category at a recent award ceremony – Best of The Mountains – an annual awards program that recognizes excellence in public relations and marketing communications in Western North Carolina.

One judge commented, “It appears that research was key in adjusting to the use of more video, and with a minuscule budget, the YouTube hits and fan numbers aren’t shabby.”

Another judge said, “Well done Action Pursuit Games (now duck, there’s a paintball headed your way!)”
