MCALESTER, Okla. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Victoria Summer is the newest celebrity name signed on to help a local group running a grassroots campaign called Take McAlester Back in southeastern Oklahoma. The campaign is geared toward getting drugs out of the area and implementing programs for children and adults alike that feed creativity.

The singer and actress, born and raised in Berkshire, England, had exceptional talents from an early age. Victoria started dancing lessons started at 3, piano at ten, acting at twelve while her true love, singing, made its professional debut at the tender age of eleven. She received a scholarship to the prestigious Arts Educational Schools in London and found herself at the top of the class by years end.

Victoria excelled at music theatre with credits that included performances for the Queen, the World Premiere of “Brighton Rock” at the prestigious Almeida Theatre and the musical version of the film “Alfie” to name but a few.

Today Victoria is in Los Angeles working with world class producers to create her own original music. She is also performing at places including the ‘Crustacean’ in Beverly Hills with Izzy Chait and a Celebrity Gala Event with such artists as Chaka Khan and Chick Corea and working as successful actress in Zombie Diaries.

In August 2010 Victoria Summer wrapped a starring role in the upcoming horror film, “Dracula Reborn.” Victoria plays “Lina Harker,” the object of Dracula’s affections in the modern tale of Dracula set in present time Los Angeles. The film, produced and directed by Ray Haboush (Executive Producer of “The Last House on the Left”), is being distributed by Halcyon International Pictures in early 2011.

“Too many people today are still falling into the trap of drugs and alcohol. As an artist myself, I’ve seen it happen too often to not take action and actually do something about it,” says Summer. “There is an artist in all of us and artists need help and encouragement; talent should be nurtured and given the ability to shine.”

Ms. Summer is an Ambassador for The Foundation of a Drug Free World, and fully supports the Take McAlester Back Campaign and its purpose to get drugs out and arts in.

“I am very excited to make my first trip to Oklahoma and I look forward to meeting and chatting with you all; sharing stories and music,” adds Ms. Summer. “There isn’t a better way to make a comeback from the dark depths of drugs and alcohol abuse than through the Arts. The Take Back McAlester campaign is paving the way for you and your community to join together and get creative!”

Take McAlester Back will be holding the concert at the First Christian Church in McAlester. Summer will be the featured performer singing at the event held on the 20th of November 2010 starting at 7:00 p.m. along with McAlester’s favorite violinist Michael Ginsburg and Mayor Kevin Priddle on guitar.

Take McAlester Back was founded by the McAlester Chamber, Pride In McAlester, McAlester Main Street and Narconon Arrowhead and now has more than 30 local sponsors in the area.

MCALESTER, Okla. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The word to describe the Take McAlester Back events is inspiring. The group kicked of their official campaign Saturday morning on Choctaw Avenue. Take McAlester Back is a grassroots movement to get drugs out and arts in, all throughout Southeastern Oklahoma.

The rain held off long enough for the 10k race to occur in the morning. The 10k race was followed by a drug-free pledge where young and old alike were able to make the commitment to live a drug-free life and commemorate Red Ribbon Week, the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign of the year. That night, the Masonic Temple opened up their one-of-a-kind Scottish Rites Auditorium for a benefit concert featuring talent from all ages and walks of life. This wide variety of people took part to raise money to restore the Okla Theatre in McAlester.

The talent ranged from newcomers Camille and Haley Harris, who played their original song “Wake Up Your City” to McAlester’s favorite fiddle player and 2007 Oklahoma State Fiddle Champion in the Open Division, Michael Ginsburg. The first lady of country fiddle, Jana Jae, led the way by playing her classical and fiddle favorites. Host Comedian of the Comedy Store in Hollywood and Tonight Show regular, Argus Hamilton hosted the night’s events.

The concert also featured Jana Jae’s band Hotwire, U.K. artist Barbie Riley Wiggins, and Sandra and Robyn Coleman.

Even McAlester’s own Mayor, Kevin Priddle, took part in the events by playing with Ms. Jae throughout the evening.

The message was simple: the city was ready to take their community back from drugs and replace the pain of substance abuse with the joy of creating through the arts. The city intends to do this by implementing a variety of programs that foster creativity in youth and adults alike.

To open the event, the group unveiled a video by the Office of the National Drug Control Policy with a message to the city of McAlester from its Director, the United States Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske. In the video Kerlikowske mentions the Take McAlester Campaign as a cornerstone movement that will be recognized and supported at the nationwide level.

Mayor of McAlester, Kevin Priddle explained that yesterday’s event was just the beginning for the group who now has up to 30 local sponsors including the founding sponsors: the McAlester Chamber of Commerce; Pride In McAlester; McAlester Main Street; and Narconon Arrowhead.

“Inside every one of these children and adults is a talent that we don’t know,” added Priddle. “All we have to do is give them a little help, a little encouragement, a little inspiration and you’ll be amazed at what happens.”

The group’s next project will be establishing a Southeast Arts center where kids and adults will be able to take part in arts, music, drama, and a variety of programs that promote creativity.
